2006 Philadelphia Regional

Well, I have to say that I had a fun time at Philly on Friday and Saturday. However I was completely surprise that no one pick Team 204, Eastern Robotic Vikings for an alliance   . The reason I state this is because of two things:

  1. A completely function-able robot. Great maneuverable, they were all over the field.
  2. Great defensive robot. They block everyone that was shooting or trying to deliver balls to the corner goals. Also they block MOE on Friday from shooting on the ramp, just wanted to say.

I heard that they were going to the Championship, I wouldn’t be surprise if they were a top contender.

Also I did like 365, 357, 84, and many other teams. Overall impressive regional.

Team 379 had a great time in Philly and hope to make it back every two or three years!

Perhaps the most amazing event was when Mike Mills (who was DJing the event) walked up to me in the stands. He was on our team during years 1 & 2 !
While our alumni often attend CLE to cheer us on (its only 90 minutes away), we never expected to see an alumni there, 6 hours from home!! And he never expected to go to college and have a job where his employer asked him to work a FIRST event (imagine his boss’ surprise when Mike knew all about FIRST!).

What a small world FIRST creates!

Thanks to everyone for the fun, hospitatity and support!

Philly rocked my socks it was fantastic. It was worth waiting in the quick down pouring rain for a cheese steak. I loved the music choice, one of the best I have heard in a while in my opinion. Teams 177, 291 and 306 did a superb job at the regional and congrats. Great job for teams 84, 250 and 104 as well. I like to also extend a congrats to team 433 for their Engineering Inspiration win and 357 for their Chairman’s award win too. All the teams made Philly a worth while competition and fun. Great job to all teams. Even though the venue itself was a little bit tight there was so much energy and electricity in the air.

WOW…

Philly this year was amazing… The semi-finals put me through my paces, the quarter-finals made me want to cry… and the finals were the most taxing matches that I have ever had to drive in. Congrats to the other philly finalists, You were amazing! Beautiful robots and wonderful driveteams, You guys were awesome! I am proud to have gotten the chance to play against you. THANK YOU ALL FOR THE GREAT REGIONAL!!!

Philly was soo awesome!

Thanks to everybody that everybody else in the previous 8 pages mentioned! I had soo much fun with our Ghanians! Go SEMPER!

Hope to see you all at nationals! hopefully we can raise the $$$**

Why thank you so much? Yeah, I felt that we should had been selected but its OK, I am proud of my team. We were impress with our friends 84,357,341,365,56,484,1712 and many other teams . But by far our friends of Team 433 and hopefully the Ghanaians for getting the E.I award. We were so happy that you won, you girls deserve it.

Chiniqua and George for rocking the arena, you guys were great. I especially like how George kept the crowd in suspense to wards the end of the day.

The volunteers,Carol and her crew and Rich Kressely for putting on a rocking event, YOU ALL ROCK!

So yeah that’s good, hope to see you all in Atlanta. Can’t wait.

P.s

Two Things:

  1. Why did you think of ERV and our robot?
  2. If anyone has any video of our matches, please PM me. Thanks

PHILLY ROCK!

I did not find the suspense as exciting since I was on the field! With the real time scoring being not always 100%, the time between when you thought you won and the screen came up was really intense! :ahh:

Congrats to 291 and 306! You both turned out fabulous robots at Pittsburgh, and deserved to pick up a ticket to Atlanta. Also, congrats to 177 on their second regional win.

I was giving out some volunteer pins at the desk in the main lobby. I guess not enough veteran volunteers and mentors knew to come to the desk to receive theirs, and perhaps an announcement should be made in the pits and on the field to let them know. They definitely deserve the recognition.

This was my first year volunteering at Philly and I really got to see just how hard working every one is. I must extend special thanks and congratulations for their diligent work and a job well done to Carol K, Rich Kressley, and Maureen Weiss. These three among countless others are true FIRST heroes and a pleasure to work with. These people help make the Philly regional known as one of the most friendly and fun-filled FIRST competitions around. Way to go!

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again, the Philly regional is one I will never miss. So, see ya next year!

was there a closing video like last year?

if so, can i download it yet.

Thank you very much for that kind compliment. I believe that i did the best that I could with the driving and well you know sometimes things just dont turn out the way you hoped. However we’ll be at championships this year guys and you can expect us to keep up that defense!!!

Attention all Philly Regional Teams

What did you think of the new Concept of ERV, Eastern Robotic Vikings?

I can’t wait for the Champs!

Congratulations to all of the wonderful teams that attended The Philly regional.
We would like to thank teams 291 and 177 for choosing us as there alliance partners. All the teams in Philly did a great job. We hope to be teamed with some of you in Atlanta! Good luck and have fun!

Could you please be a little less vague with that question?

No. Jake Warren, who did the closing video last year, is now mentoring a team (I think 563 - Jake, is that correct?) so he couldn’t volunteer as a videographer this year.

However, the SOAP archives should have all of the matches, and some other significant events on their website soon enough.

Judging from their other regional coverage…it looks like they’ll have all the matches, the elimination matches, and the awards ceremony on saturday…as to when they’ll be up only time will tell I guess.

Great event… Chiniqua, thank you again for pumping the crowd up; having that much energy out there for us to “feed” off of definetly helped us in our (successful) quest for the Spirit Award.

Now, for more serious buisness; our videographer was untrained and our photographer (me) is also our programmer and was busy re-writing our programs since the IT people at our school deleted them and crippled our programming laptop on wedensday before the regional (I also lost my thumbdrive with the backup…). This means we have a distinctly lower amount of video and pictures of our robot and our cheering section than we would like; if anyone has images or video of us or our robot, please email me at dilloncompton@masteryrobotics.org or despoticdreamer@gmail.com and let me know; it would be of great help in putting together our promo packet (We are team 1394; On friday we were in the back left of the Gym with about 100 people, cheerleaders, and signs. On friday we had the big blue streamers on poles. The robot was extruded aluminum and covered in net with relatively prominent numbers.) Since most of these digital image formats tend to be large I can either get you to FTP it to our webspace, email it(if it is small or just a few pictures), or send you some blank CDs/DVDs (I will include an addressed envelope with postage, or I could swing by and see you if you will be at nats). Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dillon Compton
Team 1394

A professional photographer has posted some great pictures of the Philly Regional online at http://www.newcommunications.com/

as far as video goes, I know that someone from Soap was taping the matches for archive. I don’t think they’re up yet, but if you check http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2006/movies/ every so often they should be up soon.

Hope that helps
