the webcast sometimes shows a lunar eclipse if you are using Firefox…I would try using the same link but on Internet Explorer.
48 just played some killer defense on 1114 but the blue alliance still dominated in ringers.
No one got up 48’s ramps, 1114 remains undefeated.
at last an American Interview. Go Donnell…o’ Capn’ Saftey.
There you go, someone from 48 was just interviewed in the pits!
Maybe Discovery Canada lurks on CD?
Congrats Karthik on GTR Volunteer of the Year!
Mr. Breadner - it’s K-A-N-A-G-A-S-A-B-A-P-A-T-H-Y.
Ka-na-gas-a-bap-a-thy.
Tis not (that) hard!
More congratulations to Karthik! Well earned!
For some reason my screen froze up before they got to the Friday awards, but I did see the day’s last qualifying match – in which 1114 remained undefeated. 2056 looks like a good bet to stay that way also. I have enjoyed watching the incredible offensive power displayed by those two teams.
As we saw last week, expect the defenders to get serious tomorrow. (Psst, Travis – this includes 48.
) Will we see a repeat of Waterloo, where scoring by the mighty tubers was muted in the finals?
Can someone post the Friday award winners here please?
They are here.

edit2: can someone explain why no team number is shown next to Mark Breadner’s name? /edit2
I know for sure that Mark Breadner was nominated by team 188. However it would not surprise me at all if he was also nominated by another team or several other teams. Perhaps there is no team number next to his name because we’ve lost count of the number of teams that he is directly or indirectly responsible for starting in some way. It’s about time he received a WFFA and he’s surely a strong contender for the WFA at the championship event. I’m sure there’ll be more congratulatory posts from people that have been around longer than I have, who can better emphasize the effect Mark Breadner has had on FIRST in Canada.
Anyways, Congratulations (Mr.) Breadner!!!
The answer to ME is simple… there would be too many to list
. The GTR, and even FIRST in Canada will forever be known as the house that Breadner(s) built. And I mention that to recognize the incredible efforts of Rhona Breadner, and even the Breadner kids as well! Rhona is so humble that many do not realize just how integral she is to our program here north of the border - FRC, VEX, FLL and even future things I cannot yet speak of ;).
But Mr. Breadner’s history extends across a pleathora of teams all across the nation. If you wanted to get technical though I believe Mr. Breadner has really only been directly involved as a mentor with one team - 188.
Thanks for the explanations. Many of us have known for several years now that FIRST is strong in Canada. Now we all know a little more about the reasons for that.
If you look on Some of the other regional awards listings they don’t post the WFA winners team number either.
Yeah, you’re right – except at St. Louis where we goofed and posted the team number and name instead of the mentor’s name. :o
Good day today. Our team didn’t get a chance to show off our arm as every alliance wanted us to play defense. Tomorrow however, our first match we will be the only scorer
Congrats to Mr. Breadner!
Hope to see you and team 188 in ATL this year!
Oh, and Congrats to Karthik too!
Congrats Mr.Breadner!
and Congrats Karthik!
Congratulations Karthik!! What a very deserving honor! Keep up the awesome work for all you do for FIRST and the people in it who look up to you.
And while I don’t know Mark personally, It seems his role in FIRST is equally as impressive as Karthik’s. Congratulations to you as well!
Mark Breadner is one of the awesomest people in FIRST, but he’s also unfortunately one of the most unknown relative to his contributions. Ever since we took the plunge to go to the inaugural Canadian Regional in 2002, 48 has consistently been amazed by the Herculean efforts Mark and his family (along with the countless other notable volunteers up north) have poured into developing FIRST in Canada. He and his staff have always made us and all the other American teams feel most welcome at their event, and this has continued with the passing of the torch to Vance Scott and now Karen Rosenthal. The Canadian regionals are the best planned, staffed, and executed events in all of FIRST (they even give IRI a run for their money
), and no other event can match the fun and excitement buzzing through the building, especially on Saturday. Mark is one of the people who’ve been there all along, guiding FIRST in Canada to the success it is today.
Mark, congratulations, and thanks again for all the wonderful memories you and your family have helped bring to Team 48 over the years.
