I hope they do. Every year they promised to fix the problem(s), but it never seems to happen. I hate getting sick every year for the same reasons.
the closest mall is a good 20-30 minutes on rt. 1 so um not really walking distance
plus there are litteraly no fast food restaurants nearby and only a couple of grocerystore/deli’s about
5-7 blocks away
so i think getting food in the SBA would be a wise thing to do.

As far as food goes, the Concession stands will be open for the crowd, also there is the option to get the boxed lunch.
There is a McDonald’s on Cass St. That’s DEFINITELY walking distance.
And there’s a few pizza places and chinese food places that are also down the street (opposite direction, but you can’t get lost). They’re only like 3 blocks away. My team walks there every year. I do recommend the box lunch deal though, it’s not that bad. A sandwich, a piece of fruit, a bag of chips & a soda. It’s WAY cheaper than concession stand food, and you don’t have to walk in the freezing cold.
My mom has been talking to the guys who work at the SBA (apparently she knows a bunch of them), so the NJ Planning Committee IS working hard on it. There’s even a possibility that they may purchase their own flooring to go over the ice.
Regardless, you have to prepare for the cold because it will still be on top of ice. IT WILL BE COLD, there’s nothing we can do about that. Our team wears 2 pairs of socks and a sweatshirt/long-sleeved shirt underneath our team shirts. We all know it sucks, but at least you KNOW about it. Which means you can take the appropriate actions to better protect yourself.

Actually, they promised to replace the flooring as a part of the contract a while ago, to the best of my knowledge. But that promise was made every year. I want a regional at College ave/Rutgers!
Technically it was never a contract. After the first year or so we said that we’d like a new floor, and SBA said that they would accomodate us, so far they haven’t lived up to their end of the bargain. Like Sara said, it’s an ice rink, there’s nothing really we can do about the floor. Just come prepared and dress in layers…you can always take layers off, but you can’t magically create clothes at the arena.
And as for College Ave/Rutgers. The NJ regional is held right during Basketball season, so the RAC is pretty much out…and if we went back to College Ave then the NJ regional would then be smaller than the NYC regional of past years where there were only 26 or so teams.
Simply put, we don’t FIT in the College Ave gym anymore.
I am going to suggest that we find out if we can use the basketball floor. My mom made a good point that we are between two hockey games and they probably don’t want to switch the floors, but they are doing it for the Harlem Globetrotters the next week, so maybe they’ll do it for us too. I’ll bring it up, but I can’t make any promises.
Frankly, it isn’t NJ FIRST that’s letting you down, it’s the SBA who can’t be bothered to solve the problem. FIRST is coming up with as many temporary solutions as we can, but the SBA has sort of tied our hands.
pff, rutgers stadium, duhhhh, then id only have to walk down the street to get there, then again outdoors might be a little problem eh?
anyhow, 1279 will be there, fighting for our third straight NJ championship in 4 years of existence

I have to reiterate what Sara is saying. NJFIRST is doing everything that they can to get the new floor, and I assure you that the floor will be better than it was last year.
As far as the cold goes…if you get a little chilly just start dancing! That should warm you up in no time. We have a mascot pit in the front but there’s always room for a few plain clothed friends.
Other than that…only 36 days left until the regional…let’s make it a blast!!!

Hot off the presses, the issue of the floor has been resolved at SBA!
If memory serves me right, we had a horrible cardboard flooring at SBA last year, which not only disintegrated and was a horrific tripping hazard.
This year we will still have that down on the floor (SBA supplies that since it’s their ice rink) but NJ FIRST will be putting down Masonite sheeting on top of the cardboard flooring which will significantly decrease not only the dust but will also provide a much safer foundation on which to walk on.
