2007 New York City Regional

Hey all,

Looks like we’re gonna have an interesting regional this year.

A couple of things add to this excitement. First, a move to a new venue (The Javits Center!!). We also got a couple of new teams attending, including another team from England, and we’ve got team 56 (Robbe Xtreme) registered, along with lots more teams pending (11, 422, and lots of others).

So who’s planning on coming?

Feel free to discuss anything related to this regional in this thread, who’s coming, who’s going to win, and more, and more.

please tell me you meant 2007?

Yup, Team 11 is making our first appearance in New York!
It’s going to be a different atmosphere for us. The past three years, we’ve gone south to Palmetto. We really love it down there; the people (and the weather!) are great, but for budget and travel reasons, we’re going to the Big Apple this year. I don’t know what took us so long, really. It’s right around the corner.
I’m looking forward to a great competition, and I especially like the new venue. I was at the Javitts Center for NextFest, and it’s great, but I do wonder about spectators. (Are there any stands there?)

Apparently, we’re going to be getting at least the amount of stands that there were at Riverbank (The previous venue.). But I hope that there will be more, because we’re going to have about twice the number of teams attending.

Hopefully, they also decide to webcast the regional.

Ok well here’s my challenge to all teams in the NYC regional.

In the past the crowd excitement hasn’t really been up to par with other regionals. And now with a bigger venue we need the excitment to be bigger than ever. If you guys do your part to make things intense, I’ll do my part by entertaining you as co-MC.

Deal?

YEA!! LET’S GET PUMPED!!!

Come on guys, you got the friendly rivalry down pat, lets show it by cheering your voice away.

NYC is always fun, but I can’t wait to see what a bigger venue brings to this event! Additionally, and I bet you didn’t know there will be the first ever Science & Technology Career Fair! Which is …awesome. So if you have a free minute at the event, you can talk to companies who are looking for employees to do exactly what you’re interested in!

Still, it sort of weirds me out that the regional is Friday - Sunday this year. But, if that was the cost of getting the Javit’s, then I’m all for it !

You’re on George!

Question for all. Does anyone know why the regional goes from Friday to Sunday?

I’d assume that those were the only available dates for the arena, so FIRST had not other choice but to set those dates.

Thats what I had assumed too. But I wanna see if anyone has anything concrete.

Last year it was because of the NCAA tournament. They didn’t have enough time to setup everything, I guess.

Currently, the Javits Center site has nothing around that time, just stuff in the first week of march. But yeah, I can see how thats most probably what it is.

It is pretty concrete.
The deposite was made.
The test run was successful (NEXTFEST).
And the volunteer list is filling up…
:]

Wrong concrete evidence I was talking about. haha.
I meant concrete as in why it is indeed Friday-Sunday.

And you were the man I knew would answer.
Was the reason that its Friday to Sunday just because of the Javits Center openings?

Correct! Because of the loading and unloading of equipment, Friday-Sunday was the only days available to NYC FIRST.
:]

Well since I have been checking the VIMS lately I have noticed that nothing has been changed yet so I would like to know if I can get on that volunteer list I will PM you with preferences.

Wow, the Javits Center! Congratulations! I would LOVE for us (Team 20) to make it to the NYC regional this year. It has always held a soft spot in my heart.

Rich

I have counted these reasons over and over and over again and all I come up with is 3 not 10. BTW math was not my better subject, I have 4 Math Regents failures to prove it =).

Anyway see you and the rest of the Field Assembly Crew on Thursday Afternoon.
