2007 POV-Ray Desktops

Every year I spend the first weekend of build season re-learning POV-Ray so I can produce some really nice ray-traced renders of the FIRST field. While they serve almost no practical CAD or animation purpose (each image takes ~5 min to render), they make excellent desktop wallpapers. I’ll be rendering for a while more tonight and updating the website, but to make the process quicker I decided to post what I have so far and ask for requests (screen resolution, camera angle, etc.) for renders so I can add them as I go. (I’ve already got driver’s-eye-view-obstructed-by-ringers-on-the-rack rendering.) I’ll also upload the POV-Ray source.

Hooray for MIT bandwidth.

These are awesome! I have new wallpaper tonight. Very nicely done.

Beautiful work! Can you render them in higher resolutions? Say, 1280?

beautiful… just beautiful

+1 for you

I’m rendering some common sizes up to 1920x1200 (and one much larger one for dual desktops) right now as well as some close-ups of the Rack. I have it running in the background because otherwise I can’t do anything on my computer, so it may take a while to get them all posted.

these are awesome… i have already converted my work and home computer to have them as a background

Those drawings are absolutely beautiful. My brother immediately switched over his desktop background to one of your renders.

I am amazed by the accuracy and thoroughness of your models.
