Can we officially say that this is going to be the toughest regional in the mid west? this is going to be one heck of an event and we will see everyone there.
Pending fundage, 1529 hopes to be there again. We were blown away by the level of competition, and we look to be inspired again this year.
It official, we are going to West Michigan. We were signed up earlier in the week, but I didn’t want to talk just yet. Also as of tonight, teams 33, 68, and 111 are signed up as well. These were the only teams that stood out to me from the 5 or so that have registered this week. There 33 teams registered, with only 11 spots left and 32 teams waiting to get in.
With only six spots left for West Michigan and 30 teams waiting to get in, I think there are going to be some good teams that get left out.
226 Hammerheads are registered as of earlier this week.
1816 would love to go beyond all belief… specifically me… but we have to figure out funding/mentor and chaperone availability before we can commit… hope to see you all there! Fingers are crossed.
When all is said and done there will be 54 teams at the West Michigan Regional. This was confirmed at our regional committee meeting Monday. So with 30 teams bidding on 16 spots, I would get your money in soon.
Same layout as last year with split pits. We are also looking at the possibility of adding another practice field. One for each pit area. Confirmation to come later.
I like to refer this regional as “The Battle on the Grand” since the GVSU campus is along the Grand River.
Ken,
I think you and the planning committee did a great job last year,if their is anything I can do to help please call or e-mail.If you need help with a practice field I think Team 107 could help.

I may be wrong but i think Team 469 Las Guerrillas is definitely going to West Michigan. If we aren’t in already then we are definitely on the wait-list for it. Hope to see all of you guys there! Have fun!
[Jimmy above me is correct - 469 is now in and confirmed]
After 5 years, 469 is finally returning to West Michigan! There is an amazing array of teams out there, with some of the best contending for the champion’s title, and the Chairman’s award. I look forward to having a great time there (I will make sure of that - it will be my last FIRST regional as a high school student)
On a different note, has anyone begun to make hotel arrangements? I’m looking though the regional website’s hotel listing and starting to narrow down our choices. Where is everyone else staying (or planning on staying)? Its always more fun when there’s another team occupying the same hotel as you.

I’m going to be attending GVSU starting in January, so I’ll be staying in my dorm
Last year and the year before we stayed at the holiday inn, this year I have been told that 33 will be there and last year 27 was at our hotel. We will be there again I can get the information on it if you want?
No, I don’t think that would suffice for our entire team
got some extra room? lol
703 will be there!
397 got in at the last second. 5 teams dropped and we got an invite so see yall there
Just wanted to share some good news. With the help of Team 111 (Wildstang), the West Michigan Regional will be webcast this year. Thank you Wildstang.
I am still working out a couple details with the University yet but I will have a link on the event website ( www.westmichiganregional.com ).
Stay Tuned.
Yeah WildStang now everyone will get a chance to see the best regional in the Midwest. This regional is stacked up and down. I’m pumped.
As the regional approaches, we wonder if other teams have started making reservations. Being so far away and not knowing West Michigan (we’ve never been there before), we are wondering if teams could help with the best hotels in the area (is anyone actually staying in Allendale? The hotels we found weren’t big and we couldn’t make a reservation for the entire team - actually, not even half of it).
Any help is appreciated!
how in the world did you decide on west michigan regional? i know it is one of the best regionals and michigan is kind of nice, but west michigan in march-something called lake effect-they just closed the campus. go to grand valley web site and check their campus web cameras. we stayed at the super 8 motel in hudsonville- free breakfast, indoor pool, 15minutes away, 220.00 two nites 4 in a room- 1-800-800-8000 good luck see you at the comp. you might want to post - brazil team help west michigan- you would get a lot more responses.
Well, West Michigan fit perfectly in our time constraints/travel motivations:
- 4th or 5th week regional (enough time for the robot to be shipped)
- extraordinary pool of teams (well… no need to explain that!)
- new city (we tend to vary)
- close to a great touristic city (Chicago, in that case)
I think we made a great choice!
Looking forward to it,
