Regional dates are now on http://www.usfirst.org/community/frc/regionalevents.aspx?id=430 but the capacity is not listed.
Does this make it official?

Probably…I see the top of that page still says “coming soon” but the fact that they are showing up on that page means that they are now in TIMS…I would guess this is in preparation for the upcoming event registration opening…
I would expect a post from Bill on his blog if this is the final list of dates…
http://frcdirector.blogspot.com for those of you who don’t have the address…or at least an e-mail blast to registered teams(which I know hasn’t gone out yet either)…
Does anyone know when we will hear about the dates for the Michigan events? Our school does not want us going during the MME (Michigan Merit Exam), if possible. How can we register, or even plan, without dates?
Try here http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69253
Warning: These dates are tentative and I have in no way checked as to their accuracy, so no promises.
Based on the information that I have received, the dates provided at the above link are the official dates AS OF 9/16…I do not have any information on if any dates are still tentative, or if they are all confirmed.
Capacities are posted.

**FIRST Championship
Atlanta, GA DATE 4/16/2009 - 4/18/2009
Pending Teams: 0 Open Capacity: 190 **
This is from the FIRST website. Does anyone know if the 190 capacity is a typo or is it legit?
I would assume that the remainder of the typical 340-ish team capacity is reserved for regional qualifiers, last year’s champs, CA, previous CA, and Michigan qualifiers. That’s another 130+ teams.
I would assume that as well except that in the past they have normally just listed the max capacity, not the capcity for the teams that don’t qualify. This just seemed a little off to me thats all. I won’t speculate what the 190 max number could mean.
The style would indicate “Open Registration Capacity”, as the Michigan Championship has “Open Capacity: 0”. But 41 regionals could generate as many as 246 qualifiers (3 winners, Chairmans, EI, Rookie). Add 18 from Michigan, plus about 15 or so pre-qualifiers (HoF, 2008 champs, etc) and you’re up to an event of nearly 480! *FIRST *is counting on some teams qualifying from more than one regional, and other qualifiers being pre-paid (part of the 190). I’m sure they base that on past experience.
Or else we’re about to see a change in qualification methods… I think you’re right, though. For example, 148 has two slots (original and 2008 champion). Then again, FIRST is still showing the 2008 criteria.
Oh, and there are a few more than 15 pre-qualifiers. There are at least 25 (and growing by one each year).
So 246+18+25+190= 479 teams. However, there are these factors:
–Double-qualifying, where a team gets more than one slot.
–Drop-out, where a team qualifies but can’t make it.
–Wait-list, used to deal with the above… maybe not this year.
