My team is researching different ways to grab the poles to climb.
They came across a few videos of 148 and 1114 grabbing the pipe in 2010 breakaway using a latching mechanism.
Anyone more familiar with these kinds of grabber designs: pros/cons?

Are you referring to the poles on the side of the hangar, like these? There’s some discontinuity with the truss supports so a wraparound hook would not work.
Assuming you are talking about the horizontal monkey bars (rungs), a simple hook shape should do. Take a look at the climber from Andymark for geometry inspiration.
Mabye you’ve already seen this but team 148 provides the cadfiles from previous years. Might be helpfull to dive into those:
And would be illegal to boot as robots cannot grasp or grab the truss.
