WOW! With the super-strict fire codes in Hawaii, I’m impressed they pulled this off. I would have been freaking out big time if that was my FMS computer/hardware right there.
I think that hawaii has one of the best regionals!!! Amazing opening ceremony this year Fireworks were insane.
Congrats to our alliance partners 368 and 2467 for a great run in winning the Hawaii regional.
In our 11 year history, 359 and 368 finally won a regional together after being a finalist all 3 times in the past when we lost to the eventual regional champs in 2000, 2003, and 2008. WE FINALLY DID IT!
Both of us had an 18-0-0 record and were ranked 1 and 2 respectively.
We will be ready for Atlanta!!! I expect Hawaii to rock there!!
Mahalo especially to 359 for selecting us and congratulations on your impressive three-peat. While I thought this was the Year of the Tiger by the Chinese calendar, I think it’s quite appropriately the Year of the Bulldog!
Mahalo also to 2467 for rounding out our alliance. All three of us now get to go both to Atlanta and to Dallas (for VEX)!
A special congratulations to 3008 on your Chairman’s win. It is definitely well deserved from everything I’ve seen.
I would be remiss not to thank all the volunteers who made the event happen. Hopefully we’ll see more and more alumni from teams volunteer in the years to come once they’ve graduated.
Pretty good haul for 2438 this year, between the Quality Award and our build captain making Dean’s List. Great job to 359, 2467 and 368 (as usual), and a huge thanks to our alliance partners from Maui High and Farrington. With regards to our elimination performance, I was thrilled with where we ended up–losing to the ultimate winners in the semis was certainly a dignified way to go out. We’re also hugely proud of the first semifinal match, which we only lost (12-9) because of Waialua and McKinley’s double hang. Sadly, none of our alliance’s members will be heading to Worlds (at least not on qualification from this regional), but 2438 at least will see you guys in Dallas for VEX. Thanks for making our third Hawaii regional awesome!
There is not much more that can be said about Hawaii regional. The entertainment value was light-years beyond anything I’ve seen before. Expect many teams to apply for Hawaii regional next year. I want to say thank you to all the teams who attended and made this event really special not only for me but for the whole team. Special thanks to Iolani and farrington for being such great partners. My only wish is that i could come back next year but it seems like my time with FIRST will be on hold for a while. On behalf of everyone from Team 2443-Blue Thunder, I want to say that it has been an honor competing with such great people during these last three years. Good luck to everyone in Georgia and in Dallas.
2443, it was great working with you guys. You had a really amazing bot, and you were a huge reason why we got as far as we did in the elimination rounds. We really appreciate the compliments and look forward to seeing you guys at next year’s competition!
P.S. Just a slight correction: 2438 is Iolani, not Kalani. (We get this a lot, since Kalani means "heavenly falcon" and
Iolani means “heavenly hawk”. We also tend to get confused with other teams at our regional due to our number: the Hawaii regional contains teams 2438 (us), 2348, 2437, and 2439.) See you next year!
By the way, a couple videos of the entertainment to kick off the awards ceremony on Saturday.
Here’s looking to 2011!
Just wondering, where did most teams stay in Honolulu? Waikiki, or up near Pearl? I am trying to get the team to go to Hawaii and St. Louis next year. Mahalo.
the Ala Moana hotel offers a great deal at $89/night. We have stayed there ever since the Hawaii regional started. Great thing about it is the kids can go shopping as the shopping center is right next door.
The HI RPC works out deals with hotels in Waikiki to get good rates for FRC teams if you choose to go that route.
Both areas are very close to the Univ. of Hawaii where the tournament is held.
This is really great.
Be sure to click the HQ button to get Hi-Res it is much better quality.
Unfortunately it has a picture of the back of my head. I have been in denial about the bald spot for 30 years. Our documentation team knows never to publish a picture of me from that angle.
Speaking of high res and better quality, we’ve finally got the whole regional uploaded to YouTube. Video is of the whole field so you can see all the action and is viewable at both 720p as well as 1080p. Score breakdowns are via the Twitter feed* (which mysteriously lost a few matches). Also, two matches are unfortunately incomplete due to forgetting to press Record on time… woops!
- By the way, if you’ve never noticed before, check out the FRC-Spy button at the top of the page (above the orange banner) for the same information.
We’d like to send McKinley Robotics a huge MAHALO for posting the matches for the entire 2010 Hawaii Regional on YouTube. Awesome job!
