I want to welcome teams coming to the inaugural FRC Regional here in San Antonio, Texas. The event will be in our historic downtown in the Herny B. Gonzales Convention Center with access to the famous River Walk. There are plenty of affordable hotels downtown and the venue is walking distance to the River Center Mall with the requisite food court.
Of the currently registered teams, there is a decent mix of rookie, young and veteran teams. If a few more vets move off the waitlist that mix will get just a bit better.
19 Rookie Teams
8 Sophomore Teams
18 3rd year Veterans
15 Multi-year Veterans
60 Total Team Count
It is just amazing the effort that has been put forth by many volunteers and funds from many new sponsors to take Texas from something around 35 teams and one event four years ago to the current 145 and now three events. San Antonio itself has gone from just 3 teams for about 7 years to now 16 this year.
Looking forward to having a great dual event with a FTC Championship on Thursday and FRC match play on Friday and Saturday.
You should be tremendously proud of the San Antonio community you helped create! I’m really glad to see you and Mike Henry were able to restore the Grease Monkeys team 457
Hopefully we get to see each other in March but that waitlist just keeps waiting !
It has been a patience trying year for all Texas teams as the unknowns of developing all of the new rookies has meant holding back on waitlists to ensure that they have a place to play in Texas as required by a couple of the grants. I have no specific insights as to when/if waitlists will clear but we’ve seen a lot of movement on the Alamo list at the end of last week and this week now. It will be great to see you and the DiscoBots play here in SA.
I can’t wait to see all the great teams coming to the Alamo Regional. It will be fun competing as 457 again. Good luck to all the teams that are coming and hope you enjoy San Antonio!!!
Quite an interesting feeling this season brings as I am involved in hosting a FRC event for the first time. Kind of like having family over for the holidays for the first time in your own house.
Several have posted how great it will be to have several seasoned veterans with proven records of success coming to San Antonio. I’ll echo those comments plus add that there are several more not yet mentioned. We might see one or two more move off the waitlist in the coming weeks.
I will put out the call that any of the veteran teams that also have experienced tournament volunteers also consider signing up for key spots at the event. Jess J. is our assistant RD and volunteer coordinator. She is doing her normal great job and are lucky to have her in Austin, Texas bringing some of that Pittsburg FIRST experience with her.
To those of you who have already volunteered, thanks. Another big need will be mentoring assistance for the 20 something rookies. I know that 16 is coming down to help the three new rookies from Arkansas and 245 is coming down in support of thier tele-mentoring job with a GM team in Mexico. So those teams that can, bring your extra hands and hopefully your robot will be in good competition form so that the Texas friendly experience that is FIRST in Texas can be established here at the Alamo event. Our personal standard is to live up to the team friendly event status that the Lone Star:cool: has become a gold standard while also getting off to a solid start as a new event as Dallas has done in the last two years.
Quick historical note Texas came form the Caddo Indian word teysha witch means friend. Also on another note I have also herd in addition to 148, 1477, 16, 245 and 1429. 2158 ausTIN CANs and 2468 Westlake robotics( also known as team appreciate) will be coming down from Austin to compete. It looks like this will be a great regional. Also hopefully 2587 will come down to compete!
I am so looking forward to coming to San Antonio to help out. The wife and I are flying in from California to help with judging. Haven’t been to San Antonio since Air Force basic training, I think a robot competition is going to be much more fun
I always look forward to teaser videos as a preview of what to see at events.
Word is that the tandem that is AndyMark will be at the Alamo event at Robot Inspectors. The local planning committee is very grateful to these and other veteran FRC folks who are coming down to help make this event a smoothly run and successful event.:] :] :]
Glad to have both you and your wife from the Golden State visit our town and help develop the local pool of FRC judges. Should I put out a call to Lackland AFB to see if they can get an instructor out to the event for old times sake:)
Since this is everyone’s first event of the season lets make scouting a bit easier. I would love to see pictures or even better videos of every robot that is going to be at the inaugural Alamo Regional.
To start it off, if you haven’t seen it yet, here is the DiscoSlide from 2587.
We should have an updated video from our final driver practice uploaded some time soon.
