2011 Philadelphia Regional

After looking at the TIMS report on registration, I can only say that there is a TON of competition coming back to Philadelphia. So far we have no rookies (yet…) but I am sure there may be a few signing up last minute. Anyway, I know for a fact the Liacouras Center will be electric with competition this year. Although upsetting to see the competition being moved from Drexel, I believe that the Liacouras Center provides better space to actually watch.

Besides me, who else is psyched to play this year in Philly? I know for a fact that it will be a HEAVILY competitive regional and I surely cannot wait!

Stupid Temple University…

Myself and other FRC alumni here were pretty disappointed to see that Drexel won’t be the host of the regional…anyone know the cause?

.

I’m not too sure but if it’s capacity I can totally see why. Last year, I did love being in that building and the small but lively atmosphere was just too exciting. The more I think about it, I really enjoyed DAC more than I did Liacouras. Akash, I will try and get more info about this. I hope that Drexel isn’t completely shunned out.

Last year was the final year of the contract that was previously set up with Drexel. I believe that there are talks in bringing it back once all the construction dies down.

As a Drexel student, I can tell you that its not becasue of construction (at least not anymore). I have heard a few rumors that its because of the new president comming in…

Got enough Temple hate there, Stogi? :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, we’re planning on Competing in Philly again this year, assuming that it doesn’t fill up before we can get in. Personally, I liked the Temple Venue in 2009 so the location change doesn’t really bother me.

I believe the switch may be due to the Temple Arena’s Size. From what I can remember in 2009 it seems to be larger than Drexel’s Gym, and if you check the Team Capacity it is set at 54 (I’m assuming they’ll have some rookie spots as well) for this year while I believe Drexel’s max was around 44 in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010, though I may be wrong.

341 is really looking forward to another great Philly Regional!!
Temple is a nice facility, but we will really miss Drexel.

Drexel’s DAC is the true home of the Philly Regional. (IMHO)

The newly built DAC is really really nice. If any kids at the regional want to visit Drexel let me know.

316, The LuNaTeCs, are extremely excited to be attending the Philly regional no matter where it is. However, I was hoping for a college tour of Drexel.

Philly will be packed with competition yet again this year, that is one thing that Philly will never loose. It’s always a great time and I can’t wait to see what it brings.

Its looking unlikely I’ll be able to make it to Philly this year. The philly regional has become somewhat of a second home for me, the atmosphere and the people surrounding it are top notch. I’m hoping I’ll be able to make another soon in the future.

We’ll miss you, Barry! We will need to get someone to wear one of your umbrella hats as a stand-in.

Philadelphia is always a good time - great teams, friends, and matches. MOE is looking forward to it!

2495 is now registered, our only problem now is getting the money. This is the first time in our team’s history were going to a second event!

Should be a great regional as always!

I just noticed this: The Philadelphia Regional now has 3 Championship Chairmans award teams! :ahh: Woah! I guess that just shows how competitive this regional is!

I’m really hoping that at some point (Philly, Duel, Ramp Riot…whenever) 103, 341, and 365 get to play on an alliance together. I’m pretty sure that would be a first in FIRST!

I’d stop whatever I would be doing just to see that one.

Ditto.

Who knows, Ramp Riot is coming up and one of these three teams is hosting the event.

I believe it happened once, however 341 was only an RCA, but still. lol

That will be very awesome! Being that there is only 18 Chairman award winning teams, and not all of them are still teams (I would tell you how many if TBA was up, but im pretty sure they are making the changes), that is extremely rare to have in one competition!

I guess we will see on Saturday morning when the match schedule comes out . . .

Actually, now that I think about it, the winning alliance on Galileo in 2003 was comprised of 3 (now) Hall of Fame teams. 175 (2002), 236 (2009), and 341 (2010). At the time we were introduced as “The Chairman’s Alliance”, as Buzz had won it all the year before, and both 236 and 341 had RCAs that year.
