2012 kitbot

Will the 2012 kitbot change much compared to the 2011 one? Is there a chance it’ll stay the same?

It will most likely stay the same as it was last year. It all depends on the game. For example, Breakaway added the elevated sections for the wheels so that it could go over the bumps.

I would like the 2012 kitbot to go back to the 6 inch wheels over the 8. (Just my opinion.)

Same here. The 6 inch wheels are the happy medium between the tiny but fast accelerating 4 inch wheels and the large bur fast 8 inch wheels.

Personally, I’d like a year where teams are required to use bicycle wheels, and try to watch teams attempt 6 wheels drives with them.

This, of course, would be after I graduate. :stuck_out_tongue:

What size bike wheels would they be? Because I believe most bike wheels would be to large to do a six wheel drop.

My point exactly. And technically, you can have a 6 wheel drop with bike wheels! You just need a REALLY long robot!

It wouldn’t fit into the 36" envelope.

They’d have to extend the rules.

We don’t know anything. Honestly, we could lose the KOP bot.

I doubt this would happen because it is such an aid to rookie teams and even veteran teams. It’s a great chassis for people who want to make a basic drivetrain. 1114s kitbot on steroids will roast most custom chassis that are made.

We may use this next year if the game permits it, and 1114 will release the instructions already!

I’m not arguing that, I’m just saying that you can’t take it for granted.

Valid point.

This years game is for water.

We will be building boats… KitBoats… not kitbots…

Will these be available from AndyMark?

Looks like they could fit enough of a pool to test with in their new digs

Really though: having built one pre-kitbot robot, I think there are a lot of teams that would struggle greatly without a kitbot in the modern sense (in some form or fashion–note the changeover from the IFI Kitbot used in 2005-2008 to the AndyMark C-Base in 2009 and onward). Bet on something usable being in the box.

They’re coming very soon. Just some finishing touches being applied.

if you made the wheels overlap, you could do 4 wheels. I once read of a 2004 bot doing that with wheelchair wheels.

   All I want for christmas is nothing now that this has shown!

Side note: I hope Santa doesn’t ready Chief Delphi… :stuck_out_tongue:

Not going to lie, although I have seen some amazing customs chassis, I will always be a strong fan of the Kit Chassis from last year. It was very quick, nimble, and still had descent maneuverability.

Our team the past few years have used modified versions of the kit chassis. It’s always a great starting base as everything is already properly cut, and in just 1 nights work you can have it up and running. From there we typically adjust it to work with what ever particular wheels we plan on using that year.

Very excited to see what the Kit Chassis is going to be this year.

Hey Karthik,

Any word on how this is coming along? I’ve been exploring the Kitbot-on-Steroids concept after having recommended it to teams here on your team’s advice and am curious to see how close my version is to the “real thing”
