We are trying to put together the 2013 kitbot drivetrain based on the instructions provided by FIRST. It appears that the spacers for the wheels are too small. Did we make a mistake or did FIRST send the wrong size spacers?
I put it together yesterday. Andy mark has vid’s available. That would probably be helpfull.
Good luck.
296 put together the wide version of the kitbot (although we did modify it quite a lot). If you’re doing the wide build, then you have to cut two of the brass spacers included (check the video/manual for the actual dimensions, but I think it was something like 1.62").
Another thing: There is a discrepancy in the assembly steps.
On the video, the short belt goes on the pulley with spacers on either side.
In the assembly guide in the KoP, they tell you to put the long belt on the puller with spacers on either side (basically the spacers on the front and rear are mixed up).
We found it easier to go with what they tell you to do in the assembly video. The belt is still a little tricky to get on, you have to kind of wiggle it and aim in at a downward angle. Either way, good luck!
Is it the long or wide base configuration?
We had the same problem… be sure that you put the bearings in the belt pulleys and not in the wheels themselves. The bearings need to mount on the outermost part for this drive system. Sometimes it is in a wheel, sometimes it is in the belt drive pulley.
Harsh,
I was looking at it yesterday with Daniel. The first thing that needs to be done is swap the outer frame rail around on one side. It has the center drop hole on top, not the bottom.
Next, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!!
We should be having one of the experienced students working with the newer students. (This is where I need a “Facepalm” emoticon.)
