2014 Hub City Regional Discussion Thread

Surprised this thread doesn’t exist yet. The event is located at :

Lubbock Memorial Civic Center
1501 Mac Davis Lane
Lubbock, TX 79401

The webcast will be available at http://www.coderedrobotics.com/webcast/ this weekend.

Team 4301 wishes the best of luck to all teams!

FRC3005 doesn’t quite have the travel budget this year to do two regionals like we would prefer, but 5 of our mentors will be attending Hub City (about to leave in an hour) as volunteers.

Between the 5 of us, we’ll be representing as a Chairman’s Judge, Robot Inspector, Field Tech Adviser Assistant, Field Ref, and Controls System Adviser.

Look forward to seeing as many of you as we can out there! We’re certainly looking forward to it.

I’ve heard two different things at this point.

  1. 2468 is running the webcast, but they require a live line.
  2. The regional is putting on their own webcast.

Either way I think there will be a webcast. I just hope it’s better than last year’s iPhone webcast.
(The only reason they even had that much was thanks to a student on team 1986)

Team 4063 is checked into the hotel and ready to unload.

Cool! We’re going to be leaving tomorrow at 5:30 AM so we can be there before the morning pit setup.

It is a little of both with the support of Code Red. 2468 is working with Hub City Tournament officials and Code Red to bring everyone the webcast of the event.

We will post the information here as well as you can find the link on Code Red’s Webpage: http://www.coderedrobotics.com/webcast/

Well the AdamBots just got in town for the competition.
What’s there to do while in Lubbock?

This is a pretty good place to start looking for things to do there:

However, since I have never been to Lubbock except for robot competitions, I cannot attest to whether or not those are the best things to do there.

My team is pumped.
Good luck to you all!

There’s honestly nothing to do in Lubbock except for Main Event and some bowling alleys…

**Random Facts about Hub City:
2nd year as a regional
New Regional Director this year
This will be the 1st event with Chinese visitors to Texas
1st Texas event without a 10+ year Texas Veteran

Contenders : 192, 245, 2439, 2468, 4587
Wild Cards : 1429, 1817, 3507, 3931, 4063
Dark Horses : 1801, 1164, 2461, 2773

The scores will be low and defense will be heavy.
It will be interesting to see how the Chinese rookies perform.
The Chinese teams have traveled a long way and paid a significant amount of money which usually translates to great robot preparation.

Team 4301 checkin in! This regional doesn’t seem to have too many advanced teams (our team isn’t super advanced, but we’ve got our stuff together!), so in all I actually think this regional is going to be very interesting! We look forward to both fighting and working with everyone!

Fighting?!? Last I checked, our machine wasn’t much of a fighter.

This is really cool to see! In case people haven’t seen 4587’s robot, check it out - http://i.imgur.com/kDI2I3i.jpg

2914 is here and enjoying making new friends out here in Texas. Spent the day getting mechanical things sorted, but our cameras are calibrated, drive train is locked in and we are ready to rock tomorrow morning.

Congratulations to the champions, 1817, 2468, and 5320! You all were a blast to watch and to compete with! It was fun being in Texas again, but we’re headed out tomorrow morning to our Michigan weather. Supposed to be near freezing by the time we reach Rochester Hills.

Team 4063, TRikzR4kiDz, would like to thank Team 4153, Project Y, for picking us and Team 1801, The Dapper Dans to create a powerful #7 alliance. We had a great run, knocking of the #2 and #3 alliances before falling to the #1 alliance (1817, 2468, 5320). Congratulations to the Llano Estacado RoboRaiders, Team Appreciate and the Cyber Hornets for winning the Hub City Regional. Team 4063 would also like to thank the judges, we can home with a quite a bit of hardware…

We look forward to seeing y’all again in Dallas.

Does anyone know if videos of the matches will be available?

I posted one.

I didn’t bring a tripod, nor enough memory or battery to film very many. And it takes a while to upload them here at less than 1mb/s
