Considering the higher quality of the webcasts this year, I am nostalgic.
*Has anyone seen an announcement from FIRST explaining why the NYNY Match Results qual match data are incomplete?
They have nostalgia?
My previous post was a jibe about how the quality of the webcast reminded me of years past, when the webcasts were just beginning.
Like the 5-1/4" floppy, I don’t necessarily miss them.
The ability to get (almost) real time data from competitions as they happen amazes the old me.
The new me has become impatient and decided to transfer my floppies to my iomega 100 MB Zip Drive if I can find the cables for my Timex Sinclair 1000.
WYSIWIG? What’s WYSIWIG? :ahh:
I finally threw out a box of 500 of those last summer. Including copies of Harvard Graphics, WordPerfect, Borland Paradox, Watcom C, and DesqView.
iomega 100 MB Zip Drive
I still have 4 of those in my computer parts closet.
They’re backups for the hundred or so ZIP disks I haven’t yet transferred to other media.
Timex Sinclair 1000
I built 2 of those in 1982.
It was a good regional even if I didn’t compete at it. Congratz to the winning Alliance.
NYC was won by the #6 Alliance!
RoboTigers from Long Island City, 1796, The Griffins from Londontown 1884, The Saunders Droid Factory from Yonkers 2344.
Loving this games outcomes and how scouting and alliance “meshing” is worth so much.
I was a scorer and scored that last match (from the VIP seating side of the red - aka winning - alliance). It was a close one! Loved the last second “get a tote on the platform!” move
Now I’m exhausted. Can I sleep for a week? Can’t wait to score at CMP as well!!
The field had a really slow internet connection. I’d guess the Javits Center charged an arm and a leg for anything better. Most of the match results uploads are pretty big (they include some log data), so they failed often due to the slow speeds. The rankings uploads are much smaller, that’s why they were going through regularly. I know that it seemed to work here and there, which is why the results came in chunks. Not much we could’ve done, sorry.
I want to say the webcast was on a different connection (I can’t say for sure), but I doubt it was much better.
I posted a summary of what I saw fieldside as FTAA over on this thread.
Is there recorded match footage from this regional?
Also does anyone have pictures of 395, 743, 1155, 1660, or 2265’s robots?
Can confirm Javits charges 2 arms, a leg, and a pinky toe for internet speeds acceptable for a sustainable stream and internet in general, even just for one connection drop at the entire event. We, in collaboration with NYC FIRST, tried our best to find a way to make the webcast work in the beginning but finally succumbed to their .27mbps upload speeds and NYC FIRST got it upgraded near the end of the event.
With that said would like to sincerely thank NYC FIRST for spending the large sum it cost to upgrade the line and allow us to stream at a viewable bitrate.
Our apologies for the poor quality the first two days, and the switch from ustream to twitch (since twitch allows you to set a bitrate so we could actually show something before we upgraded) and then the switch back to ustream (after we upgraded the speeds and Twitch decided to ban our channel because it was not gaming related…)
Both the field and the webcast were on the same connection. We hope near the end of the event the quality was much higher and we strive to continue to make the stream better from the beginning next year.
Does anyone know how MAR and NEFIRST stream events without having problems on Twitch because we are fairly upset with them right now.
Again thank you to everyone for your patience as we dealt with the problems and we hope you enjoyed watching Sundays matches.
MAR streams on YouTube, and cuts the event music out of the stream.
FRCtop25 and GameSense are on Twitch as well, so it might be worth dropping them a line.
Yes, Here is a picture of 1660’s robot
At least, that’s what it will look like next week!
Here is DragoKnight, the Harlem Knights’ 2015 robot before bagging:

Well played, well played. Looks great. Can’t wait to see you guys at FLR. If you’re interested check out our release video but know that there will be two new features added on before/during FLR. How was 743 doing? It appears they picked you for elims.
The reason why the info wasn’t all uploaded was because of the venues internet speed that the NYC Regional committee paid for and the size of the file uploads.
It was basically trying to download an entire DVD Movie over 56K to put this into better perspective. A lot of data over a slow connection…
Checking FIRST’s website everything seems to be there but during the event it was hard to get the stuff uploaded timely without it timing out.
I find it slightly ridiculous the javits center doesn’t help first out financially. I love the javits center (I’m there all the time) but some things they do like their food costs are just ridiculous.
I have a media contact through the cea for twitch and can try to contact them about allowing first events. I also have a friend who does a weekly tech stream and has a good relationship with first so I’ll try to get him to help you guys our for next year.
Congratz guys. You are one of the nicest teams and I can’t wait to compete with you at sbpli.
One would think, but ultimately to many of the venues FIRST uses throughout the year, they are just another customer and show coming through who gets charged standard rates. It stinks but it happens. I know FIRST and SRE try their hardest to negotiate these things down, but many venues hold hard ground. It is sadly just part of the game.
