Just wanted to let everyone know that the game manual is now online and availible for encrypted download at address below. For those who don’t know, FIRST releases the password at the end of the kickoff broadcast. Feel free to post any password guesses below
Hey. Is anyone else having issues downloading the frc game manual? I can view it in my browser on my iPhone and Windows computer but it won’t allow me to download it as an encrypted pdf to my computer or phone. Is there a reason behind this? Or am I just missing something? Thanks
I wish they would just post an encrypted zip file. Everyone is going to re-download the actual files after kickoff because no one has the patience to type the password every time they open a file. In the future, could FIRST please just provide an encrypted zip so we only need to type the password once?
My iPhone won’t let me do anything with encrypted PDF files. I guess they expect you’d decrypt it first. Safari will show me that it’s there, download it, and ask for a password but I can’t do anything else like email it if I leave it encrypted.
As a comparison, I looked at the Admin Manual and my phone gave me a lot more options for things to do with it. Email it, send it to iBooks, send it to Dropbox etc.
I’ve noticed that this years files are much larger in file size than last years encrypted files. This year’s game manual is 15.5MB, compared to last year’s 3MB. This year’s Field drawing files total 128 MB, compared to last year’s 46MB. I wonder if its just attributed to higher resolution images, or if there is much more detail in the manual this year.
I also wish they encrypted the game animation and field tour videos. It would make it a lot easier to watch them a second time locally rather than fighting the schools web filter to access them on YouTube.
FIRST could put the unencrypted game manual in an encrypted zip file. With the password, you could then decrypt the zip file and extract the unencrypted game manual.
The field drawings could be put in a separate encrypted zip file.
The point is: don’t encrypt the file itself. Encrypt the container of the file so you don’t have to download the unencrypted file later.
So I figured out how to download it to my computer. But last year, I was also able to download it to iBooks on my iPhone. Has anyone figured out how to do that this year? Thanks.
