Perhaps I’m not the best one to do this since this is our first time at Buckeye, but it hasn’t been created yet so…
Just some quick stats for you:
There are 60 Teams attending the Buckeye Regional, all from the Mainland US
44 attending teams have already competed at one or more events this year
Of the 44, 24 teams advanced to eliminations at 1 or more events
Of the 24, 5 teams advanced to finals
Of the 5, 2 teams were regional winners
Overall, 10 teams at the regional have qualified for Championships
Looks to be a very competitive regional. It will be interesting to see how the high level of 2nd regional teams effects strategy, gameplay, and overall robot performance. I know that the Ohio River area sports some of the best teams in FIRST, so good luck to all teams!
Teams to watch:
48 Delphi E.L.I.T.E - Winners of Miami Valley Regional and Smoky Mountains Regional, this team has been very consistent this year and is looking for their 3rd regional blue banner
4028 The Beak Squad - This team will be looking for their first blue banner of the season after a heartbreaking shutout in the finals at Pittsburgh.
5413 Stellar Robotics - This team has made it to eliminations at every single one of their regionals since their team creation but has never won it all. 5413 had the highest overall OPR at Miami Valley Regional and will be looking to win this event.
340 G.R.R - Their consistent gear cycles led to them becoming the first pick at Finger Lakes Regional, bringing them to the finals but getting shut out.
Other teams to look forwards to watching:
379 (2016 Einstein Semifinalist Alliance Caps, QF at Miami Valley)
4085 (winners of Miami Valley Regional)
3015 (winners of Finger Lakes Regional)
Greetings from Team 128! Last year at the Greater Pittsburgh and Queen City Regionals, our team asked all teams at the competition to bring us toiletries from their homes and hotels. We then donated these toiletries to our local Battered Women’s Shelter. Last year we received over 730 pieces of hygienic materials. This program was such a great success that The Botcats have decided to do it again at the Buckeye Regional! We will come to your pit on Thursday, March 30th to hand out plastic bags for you to fill. We hope to have as much success this year in helping our friends over at the Battered Women’s Shelter as we did last year!
Best of luck to all teams who will be competing this 2017 season!
In the past the CSU venue staff would do bag checks and make you toss food and drink items. This has been circumvented in the past by hiding a personal stash of items under a few personal items (books, papers, a hoodie) as they don’t really ever look beyond the first layer of items. I have also seen teams bring entire KOP totes of water and snacks in through load-in and keep it under their pit table .
The less sneaky and devious method would be to explore your options in the neighborhood surrounding the venue, I’ve seen plenty of teams order stacks of pizza and eat them on the plazas just outside the event doors. I’m fairly certain they still maintain that you’re not allowed to bring it in though.
Congratulations to teams 3015, 340, and 156! It was an honor to play against such an amazing alliance in semis, and I’m glad 340 got their gear mechanism working for finals! We were cheering for you guys!
291 had an amazing experience, and thank you to all of our alliance partners throughout quals. A special thanks to 2614 and 2010 for being great alliance partners! We couldn’t have done it without you!
Team 2614 was glad to play with 291 and 2010. It was a challenging event with a lot of tense moments. I’m very proud of our alliance for calling a time out to allow our opponents in the semifinals to get back on to the field.
Team 379 would like to thank 4028 for selecting us to be part of their alliance. We love working with your team and it was a great run to the finals. Also, thanks to 2399 for joining the alliance and playing a versatile role, whether it was running gears or playing tenacious defense, you did an awesome job.
Furthermore, congratulations to teams 3015, 340, and 156 for winning the Buckeye regional! It was a very exciting final that came down to fuel scored in autonomous. Great job!
Also, Congratulations to team 3015 on their Regional Chairman’s Award and 5413 for winning the Engineering Inspiration Award!!
See you all at the St. Louis World Championships and Good Luck!!
