Can you provide a link to the rule modifications? I can’t seem to find them on the IRI website.

Here they are.

Remove 1 pre-populated gear from the airship.
Why: Increase the 4 rotor challenge.

+5 pounds weight allowance.
Why: Allows for repairs and minor modifications without major work to maintain 120.

Draft Order 1-8, 1-8, 8-1.
4 team Elimination Alliances, No Back-Ups.
Any 3 robots can play any match.
Alliance determines driver station placement.
Why: Just because.

G13. Robot Contact in the Retrieval Zone.
This will be modified to allow contact in certain situations. We don’t know the exact wording.
Why: Maintain the penalty for blocking or interfering with gear retrieval, but remove the incentive to push a robot into the zone to draw the penalty.

What is the seating situation like at IRI? Myself and a few teammates were planning on coming down to watch/ check out the pits and robots. Is this event open to the public or is it preferred that only those participating come to help keep things manageable?

The bleachers are rather sketchy IIRC, but other than that the seating is great!

If I recall correctly last summer the bleachers were replaced hence the reason for a temporary location change.

There’s room for 'ya. I would also consider volunteering–it’s way more fun.

The seating is great - and there is plenty.
This is an Indiana High School Basketball gym!

Visitors are welcome.

Volunteers are even more welcome and there is usually some cool volunteer bling!

Yes, can confirm. I go there and the whole gym was being renovated. I haven’t used them yet, but the bleachers should be good. And there is normally plenty of room for spectators.

Indiana gyms are huge.

Indiana gyms are appropriately sized. The rest of America doesn’t appreciate high school sportsball sufficiently.

The size of the gyms are fine, but have they learned that railings on stairs is a good idea?

Have you ever been to the UIC Pavilion?

They built these gyms in the 50’s-70’s in order to temporarily appease the requirements of high school basketball. However, the Indiana superintendents’ plans were to really make these arenas ideal for FRC off-season and district events. It’s true.

By the way, the IRI website is being updated. Stay tuned for more accurate information.

Andy

I am very excited to see what the remodeled gym looks like.

Does it also have death stairs? The stairs (pre remodel) were not only lacking hand rails, but they were also taller than normal

The deadliest of death stairs. They are uneven and have no rails to speak of.
