Figured I would start the thread for the Lone Star North Regional. It’s our first year competing at the event (and with short notice at that), but this is looking like it will be a fun event. 2992 is definitely looking forward to Lone Star! Good luck to all teams attending
I’ve created a prescouting doc again for Lone Star North. It has all the teams with their status from their previous regionals from TBA. It’s a little thing I like to do just consolidate all the info for the teams into one spreadsheet so that you don’t have to go back and forth a lot.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DsLH_OP_Iu_j799bxxRmDA-u_E7GAkqtglJSW6RFRnQ/edit?usp=sharing
Based on what TBA shows, we have:
- 6 wildcard teams
- 3 Chairman Winners
- 3 Regional Winners
- 3 Regional Finalists
- 16/33 of the teams have played in the playoffs at their previous events
- 13 teams will be unbagging their robot for the first time this season
- 5 Rookie teams will be attending
It looks like we’ll be having some awesome matches as a lot teams have played a lot of matches already. The Awtybots can’t wait to compete with everyone this weekend!
BREAKING NEWS:
Your prescouting sheet is out of date. 6068, Delta Overlord, has just been added, bringing us up to 33 teams, 6 rookies. It’s on the FIRST Website. TBA presumably will catch on whenever it is they scrape the website for regional rosters. They apparently didn’t get enough Steamworks at Bayou.
Ah. Thanks for that update. I’ll make sure to add them and their stats right away!!
Here is a slightly different version of pre-scouting spreadsheet that 2992 put together.
To try and compare values across regionals w/ different numbers of qualifying rounds, there are columns including OPR (from FRC Spyder), and calculating average per qual match on Match Points, Auto Points, Rotor Points, Touchpad Points, and Pressure (data from TBA).
Note that if you select the complete table of data you can use the Data -> Sort Range… function to sort it in various ways. Make sure you select “Data has header row” then you can pick what column you want to sort by – for example you can sort by Average Match Points or OPR.
Please shout out if you find any errors in the data.
Looking forward to playing with everyone this weekend.

I like your data sheet a lot better. Haha.
Just a quick note, 5829, Awtybots did punch their ticket to worlds at Lone Star Central from a Wild Card spot.
Fixed. Sorry I missed that. Also had missed a couple of others that have their ticket punched and highlighted on your sheet. I think I have them corrected.
Congratulations to the alliance led by 3284 (5842 and 6547) on their win and to the Finalist alliance led by 1255 (148 and 4371). Congratulations also to The Lady Cans for their Chairmans Award and the Woodie Flowers Finalist Award for their long time mentor, Susie Rich.
Some memorable matches for us were the ones with The Lady Cans and Iron Plaid (the plaid we wore must have been good luck charms) and the match with Eagle and Ricebird. As a rookie team, Ricebird played some awesome defense and anti-defense allowing us to get 4 rotors turning with enough time for all three of us to play defense then climb. We look forward to playing with you all again in the future.
Thanks also to the Tompkins team for all their help sorting out our software. Once we got the Autonomous-Mode tuned, it placed the Gear on the Peg 11 out of 12 times. Thanks again to Tompkins for picking us to be on their alliance. The planning you did was awesome. It was great to get to play with The Lady Cans again too.
Does anyone have a recording of the speech that Woodie Flowers gave at the Opening Ceremonies on Sunday?
Since it is over I am going to post what my pre-scout looks like https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16denLK9PFv4zYCBMwVPYySui7ymvpmakuD7COQ1VQOo/edit?usp=sharing Compared to others honestly mine would’ve been more helpful. Their total auto points/rotor points etc. does not mean anything to be honest. I don’t understand how it can be considered pre-scouting.
- 2992, your scouting sheet is somewhat decent enough
I am using this same format to pre-scout worlds as of now
First off, congrats to the winning alliance of 3284, 5842, and 6547! You guys really played great together to get the win! Good luck to you all at Champs!
Next, a HUGE congrats to 2881 on their well deserved Chairman’s win! They work so hard every year and it’s great to see them get recognized for it!
Thanks to 2587 and 3735 for allowing us to be apart of your alliance. Our robot decided that it wanted to not work this entire event after preforming so well 2 weeks ago at LSC. We had a very strong alliance and if we were at 100%, we would have done well.
Special thanks to all the teams that offered to help us throughout the event. 231, 624, 3284, 5842 (which we still have your radio by the way!!!), 5892, and anyone else I might have forgotten. We had issues with our breaker popping, radio randomly restarting multiple times during matches, and even had our drive base come completely off during a match. We managed to make it through it to make it to the playoffs only to have the radio restart comeback to haunt us again.
Lastly, I wanted to give a shout out to our great friends 1477 for being amazing hosts this weekend. You guys rocked at making sure everything was well organized and ran smoothly along with the awesome volunteers. We enjoyed ourselves and can’t wait to be back next year!
Yes, I do! How would you like me to send it to you?
I also have videos of the Rock-em’ Sock-Em’ competition between the MC and 148, Woodie dancing with one of our team members, and various dancing and antics (including 148, 2992, 3390, 5892, & 1255) if anyone is interested.
Are you guys running power over Ethernet for the radio? I pretty much refuse to entirely trust the barrel connector on those things, so I tell anyone I work with to make up a PoE connection as well.
We are running power from both PoE and the barrel. We’re thinking it’s the batteries because we noticed from the DriverStation logs, we dropped to 6 volts in a few matches. We’re going to check all our batteries this week and work on making sure the VRM, PDB and the radio are all secure when we get to the robot again. We didn’t have any issues at our previous 2 events, but there wasn’t any hard hitting like there was at LSN.
How large are the files? If they are less than 10 MB, you can email me through the PM (I think). Otherwise, if you can post them on Youtube or I can provide you with a link to my Hightail account (like DropBox).
Thanks for the info, Kevin. That is easy to do and would have saved us from sitting dead for a match. I will make sure to do this as a matter of course in the future.
Thanks also to you and all the other Robot Inspectors for giving us (and the other teams) good advice on how to pass inspection and to make our robots more robust.
LASER 3284 would like thank 1477 Texas Torque and their school for hosting a great FRC regional event. You would have never known it was an inaugural event.
LASER would also like to thank the volunteers and judges for the warm welcome and making the event memorable for our program. It was fun to meet and work with all the Texas teams, 3390 from Turkey, 4371 from Mexico, and 5842 from Florida.
Congrats to the Lady Cans 2881 for wining Chairman’s.
LASER 3284 also would like to recognize our alliance partners Royal Robotics 5842 and rookies Flaming Metal Robotics 6547 for their consistent performance and willingness to adapt to each match-up in bracket play. During lunch, 5842 quickly modified their code and tested on the practice field to allow both of us to shoot high goal fuel during auton.
Although not popular, the defensive strategy to prevent 4 rotor teleop proved effective in the semi’s and finals against the more prolific gear scoring #1 and #2 ranked alliances.
Best wishes to all the FRC teams on their future endeavors.
Lol oops… Um I’ve talked to our mentor about it I believe we’ll be able to get it when we travel back to Houston for championships you guy’s are good to keep using it if you need to lol its the extra radio we use for our practice robot. And thanks it was quite an achievement to win a regional with the help of 3284 and 6547 as a second year team. Good luck to you guys as well.
For anyone who wanted it, here’s Woodie’s speech from Sunday:
