We got a replay due to the same panel moving. In our case, it prevented us from climbing at the middle rope which could have changed the outcome of the match.
In your case, the panel was out of the way for the climb and it didn’t appear to prohibit the winning gear for the 4th rotor.
When it happened to us in Quals 6 the FTA said they had to keep schedule. Which is fine but power cycling is a really quick fix. And to add salt to the wound they also made an announcement at the field just 2-3 matches after ours commending the field reset crew for their excellent work and keeping the event ahead of schedule. So…we really would like to know the reason as well…
Yes, we had appealed this through the correct channels multiple times, eventually talking to the RD (who seemed to agree with us). I would not go about complaining if I didn’t feel that the response was inadequate.
The explanation we received was that the contact did not purposely destroy the field, and didn’t affect the outcome of the match.
I admit that the stream didn’t show it well, but I am sure that that match would have went differently had there not been a barrier ripped out of the way. It slowed down our gear cycling, and defense was made easier twice.
To be sure, a one point match could be decided by the smallest of errors / changes.
In a match we lost last week, the barrier was moved similar to the pic you showed and no rematch was granted.
I just found it surprisingly odd at the time that it could move relatively easily, since I havent been part of field setup this season.
Yeah. The divider moves really easily. There were multiple matches during Hub City where I had to get the FTAs/Field Manager to fix them before a match started. I was climbing in the middle through all of the elims so having the dividers spaced properly was pretty important. I think I had to ask for them to be reset before 4 or 5 matches.
Apparently a plastic divider that is velcroed to the floor gives way before a robot drive-train stalls. Didn’t see that one coming .
We were notified yesterday at noon that we were now allowed to set up additional cameras and access the venue internet.
We now have a 1080p camera on the left and right sides of the field at a 45 deg angle.
They are meant to be a complement to the main feed, so there is no audio, and would be best viewed on the blue alliance game day split screen interface. That is what http://plasma.live links to.

Anyone just see match 66? The first rotor on blue started as soon as auton started despite the fact that blue never put up a gear until teleop but blue still got the credit for having a rotor in auton. They checked the rotor after the match and everything but didn’t fix the score. Red would’ve lost anyway looking at the final score but still.
The talent got spread out quite a bit due to a scorched earth selection process. It’s probably the most balanced set of alliances I’ve seen in many seasons, maybe the most balanced I’ve ever seen. What fun!
So quick word from one of the field reset people. I was actually the one working the side of the field you see here, and that specific bracket thing was taken out of place 4-5 times throughout the weekend. They are held down only by some Velcro that I could probably kick over with my foot if I really wanted too.
At the event I spoke to the ref and FTA about a few specific instances. This being one of them, the simple answer is that it was something caused by the teams, something that couldn’t be avoided as the field just isn’t super well constructed (similar to the hoppers not fully emptying sometimes when triggered), and it was deemed to not have effected game play the times that if happened. While maybe it stopped you from placing a gear, a gear isn’t points, a rotor is. most of the time one more gear doesn’t mean 40 more points.
Additionally, it can only be called if the ref sees it, so while we can easily see it on stream, the ref that is stationed to watch that part of the field might not have noticed.
Another thing, sometimes when the hoppers are bumped, some balls get stuck. Unfortunately this happened mostly when 1619 or 987 was doing their shooting autos, so less balls means less pressure. We quickly decided to place a reset person in charge of pushing balls out if it happened (it still happened a few more times. matches tend to be our only break so sometimes we field reset zone out during game play). In playoffs we had a person at each hopper ensuring it didn’t happen.
Some advice for teams based off this event, CHECK YOUR ROPE AFTER EACH MATCH. We saw a few ropes break, and every time it was simply because it was being pulled. The davit section where the ropes starts to go down was being taped, and if a team wasn’t satisfied with the taping they could request more. We are doing everything we can, teams need t check their ropes.
Have a plan to get your robot off of the lift, we had to cut a sadly high number of ropes because we couldn’t get them off. I did everything I could all weekend to help teams get down, but some designs just wouldn’t budge, so we pulled out the knife and went for it.
The springs wobble, they flex, they droop. They suck. We got to lunch during the first day of quals with only 1 extra spring left. We eventually got more, but even if we had 100, we aren’t going to replace springs if we can avoid it.
The rules allow for a 3/4 inch tolerance, and the refs will bend them until they are within that and then stop. That won’t be fixed anytime soon. The best way to not drop gears is to push your gear as far back onto the spring as possible, the spring to elevator connection doesn’t bend, so push your gears onto that.
And finally, don’t yell at the field reset about your rope or the springs, if you yell at us we won’t want to help. If you are polite and ask nicely, the field reset will try to help.
I was being nice to teams about gears and ropes and things, many resseters will be too tired or distracted or stressed to help yo and the teams will have to deal with the field being a bit off from perfect. The springs won’t line up, the ropes will be hard to get down, the balls might get stuck and not count right (although at Utah I believe all matches were counted correctly, at least day 2 was), and weird things will happen.
Also a huge congratulations to 2073, 987, and their rookie 3rd bot (that also won rookie all star) for their win. Finals were very exciting to watch.
Congratulations as well to 1619 for their EI award, and for getting to the finals.
Shout out to Team Plasma for giving us the wackiest alliance selection ever (5 teams declined their first pick, and they then tried to pick 4 others that had already been picked for their second pick) .
1619 and 987 were both teams I had never met before, and may never meet again, but their coaches and students were extremely easy to work with as both an inspector and field reset, on top of having what were probably the two best robots at the event. Excited to see what they both do at their other events and champs
Hi all 1619 members, get off Cheif, you use it too much
A few observations on the game, from a coach who had to stay home and watch it on live feed.
Perhaps the most important training that needs to take place before competition is for the Pilots on each team. Not bringing placed gears up, not spinning gears in the correct order, and not using the prepopulated gears continue to be problems for some teams. Perhaps teams with more resources should put together a training squad, to attempt to train all Pilots on Thursday at regionals (or before rounds begin at districts).
Defense is super viable, whether preventing scoring Gears or Fuel. Top teams can be shut down by a box on wheels.
I have not seen much low Boiler action, but even scoring one point can make the difference. Teams like 399 will have a major roll to play when they reliably change scores from a tie to a win.
Thanks to my long time friends at 662 and 1619 for playing with my team. My kids are exhausted but happy, and I can’t wait to see them.
Would anyone happen to have footage of the closing ceremonies? We won our first ever Chairman’s award and unfortunately, no-one on our team has any video of it happening.
