It seems as if no information about regionals/events has come out since the announcement of the new registration method this year.
I know we all have been watching for more information about regionals. 33 events with only 23 regionals listed have been listed for a while now on the official FIRST site.
Does anyone have information regarding dates on Regionals in your area? I am sure other teams are interested in information as well.
Last year both my local regionals didn’t have published dates until about three weeks before first event registration. Before that I was assured by several people “in the know” that they’d be week 2, or week 5, or whatever. And most of those assurances were wrong in the end.
Lesson: unless you’re getting info directly from the regional director, wait for it to pop up on the FIRST site.
While I don’t recall the specific timeline, this same thing has happened at least the past two years - A wave of dates in the late summer, then regional dates trickling in and district dates gushing in until uncomfortably close before first event registration closed.
Most of the events that are out are mostly district.
Unfortunately for the rest of us that cant sign up for districts as a 1st, 2nd or during the unlimited period that district teams can sign up for other districts, its even more concerning the lack of confirmed regional events…given the new registration system.
The Hawaii regional event is “unofficially” during the UH Manoa Spring Break scheduled for Week 5 of competition season.
As EricH has suggested, nothing beats checking a venue’s site and calendar, until such event becomes official.
Regional directors and planning committees don’t like to publish dates until the ink is dry on the contract. Until then, things are subject to change, and they do! its amazing what these folks deal with.
So until the dates are published, any dates are speculative and only have so much planning value. Also means that once they are published you can be pretty confident they are locked in and won’t change.
Just as a heads up the date/ venue of this even is still subject to change because GFPC is trying to get a different venue and make it a Fri, Sat, Sun event.
I see on the news they’re moving evacuees into the GRB convention center. Up to 5,000 people is what the news is reporting. I hope it doesn’t turn into a situation like the Louisiana Superdome in Katrina.
For 2018? You mean the official events that haven’t officially been scheduled yet?
I’d anticipate that the folks who work with the venues will be doing a double-check to make sure the venues are still A-OK or will be ready in time, before anything official comes through.
Red Stick Rumble lost a few teams last weekend, but the event went on.
Indiana is using their event schedule unveil as a carrot to get mentors to one of the three mentor meetings being held in the state. The last one is scheduled for today, so I would imagine the Indiana district events will be posted relatively soon.
