2020 FMA Mount Olive District Event Cancelled

Not all events are at capacity. Our capacity is 36 and 35 have registered as of now. So FMA could easily…

  1. Fill events to capacity with FMA Mt. Olive Teams

  2. Cancel any 3rd plays and teams from outside FMA and replace with FMA Mt. Olive Teams

  3. Ask each remaining FMA event host how many additional teams they could fit in their facility and then divide up the remaining FMA Mt. Olive Teams

This only works however if no other FMA events get cancelled due to Covid-19.

We were on the way out the door when we got the message. I fear this is not the last event that will be cancelled

Well CNY just sent out their notice that we have been postponed.

It is unlikely that week 3 at Springside Chestnut Hill can increase capacity. The facility size is a limiting factor.

FMA did a great job a few years back when the Hatboro-Horsham event was canceled due to a weather related power outage. I am confident they will be able to do it again.

If I remember correctly, there was an available weekend to reschedule the event prior to the DCMP. This year, we already have 2 FMA Districts scheduled each weekend until our Week 6 DCMP.

Yes… your memory is correct.

Unlikely, given that week 7 is Easter weekend.

Good point. How about Week 8?

Run DCMP at the same time as Houston in Week 8? Based on the tightness of the schedule it seems like running an new event seems challenging and the solution that involves everyone getting their 2 plays likely involves some filtering into other events and packed venues.

The other question is can that venue be available for week 8?

I hate to bear bad news, but I doubt the situation is going to get better - I’m not an expert on pandemics by any means, but more people will get sick before the worst of the virus is passed in North America based on what things have been like in China and other heavily impacted countries. If we’re losing events in weeks 2-4(CNY), who knows what’s next.

Me too man. My roommate and I had driven from Pittsburgh to Scranton by the time we found out

IMO: It is extremely unlikely that FIRST will allow a DCMP during Houston champs.
My understanding is that if such an event would happen, it would not have technical support from FIRST HQ due to the load that is required on that team during world champs.

They weren’t kidding when they said it would be an infinite build season.

Not really understanding the methods or decision making being used to cancel some events but not others. The major sports teams in New York and New Jersey are all still playing home games this weekend with thousands of spectators. Time will tell which was the correct response.

I hate to say it but it is hard to imagine that any FMA events are going to go off in the next few weeks. Italy is about 3-4 weeks ahead of us on the curve and they are now playing soccer games in empty stadiums to prevent the spread of covid-19. If you have any idea of how big soccer is in Italy you can grasp what we have coming up in the next month. I hope I’m wrong but as the old saying goes, hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

The difference I would say is Georgia had possible case number three reported today. NJ and the NYC Metro area have nearly 20 times as many confirmed cases. The Westchester cases have spread through the area like wildfire.

You understand that the incubation period for this is 1-2 weeks and if you had it right now, you would be asymptomatic right?

Nobody should be saying things like “I think if you did ____ you’d be fine”. Everyone’s opinion is totally uninformed unless they work for the CDC or another public health organization.

Shams just tweeted about a memo sent to all NBA teams about this exact thing. It’s crazy that there may be an American professional sports playoffs with no fans in attendance.
