Greeting FIRST Members
Now I know we are all down trodden, because of FIRST’s cancellation of the championships and postponement of all regionals, but team 1662 will be hosting our own staged regional from our lab/practice field. The stream of North valley regional will begin with opening ceremonies with the national anthem being sung by the 1662 all men’s choir and will commence around 9 and from then the competition will begin with matches and other entertainment throughout the day.
Check out our stream at https://m.twitch.tv/frc1662/profile. A full schedule will come out tomorrow.
Please be aware this is NOT in anyway associated with first itself, we are just a team who would like to have some fun and try to bring some spirit to this FIRST season
No kidding. FIRST cancelled the season for a reason. I’m not sure that going off and creating unofficial events is a great idea, since if it were safe to host robotics competitions without increasing spread of COVID-19, FIRST would be doing it themselves. This isn’t a joke. People’s lives are at stake.
I understand the frustration at the lack of competitions (I’m a senior this year, and I’ve dedicated my life to this for the last 2 months, trust me, I get it), but public safety has to take priority right now. I want to compete just as much as the next guy, but hosting public events right now is just not safe.
I beg of you, please adhere to the recommendations of the WHO and CDC. This goes for everyone, please don’t host public gatherings until the experts have determined it is safe. They’re experts for a reason. I understand that you have the best of intentions, but it takes one unknowingly infected student to quickly and massively spread the virus at an event as closely-packed and enclosed as an FRC event.
Maybe I’m being too cautious, and maybe it’s an overreaction, but when it comes to pandemics and global health, I’d rather play it safe.
It is a way to have fun while being safe with our team Members and some of our rookies. We are the ONLY teams in attendance, so we are keeping strict health rules
