Still the same sponsor…
have they had the same major sponsor two years in a row before?

So they literally had to say they changed the game in the name so we wouldn’t speculate that it would be infinite recharge 2.0

As a title sponsor no. (they’ve only had 2 title sponsored games, 2019 and 2020 [and now technically 2021])

It’d be a pretty funny joke if the 2021 FRC game will be IR 2.0, considering the name of the FIRST season is FIRST Game Changers.

20201 Game - FIRST Blast from the Past: 2020 Edition

I doubt that Disney/Lucas Films initially signed on for multiple seasons.

My guess is the truncated season meant they didn’t get the full value of their sponsorship without the extensive brand exposure from Worlds, so FIRST is extending the sponsorship through 2021 (this might be contractual or could be a separately negotiated agreement).

If there was another major sponsor already contracted for 2021, they may now be postponed to 2022.

The VEX Robotics Competition game this season is called Change Up. Coincidence?

I thought it was funny that we had FIRST RISE and the Vex IQ game is called RISE ABOVE.

edit: I guess we could have Infinite Recharge Plus One.

I think this is much more likely than a multi-year contract. Granted, we are really new to the themed season (2019 and 2020 being the only ones we’ve experienced so far), so we could be wrong. But a worldwide pandemic and the first-ever cancellation/suspension of a FIRST season coupled with the first multi-year season sponsor just seems too much of a coincidence, you know?
