2022 Chapin, SC Kickoff Virtual Workshops (Everyone’s Invited!)

Pandamaniacs were very much looking forward to hosting a 2022 Kickoff at one of our schools…but with COVID numbers reaching dizzying heights, this past Monday we reduced the in-person element to an outdoor kit pickup. Thankfully, our wonderful presenters (@D.Allred, @Chris_SC_FSM, CD-less FIRST South Carolina prez Dr. Trish Hayner, and yours truly) have all agreed to take their workshops virtual!

We know it isn’t the same as attending a Kickoff workshop in person, but hopefully we can cushion the blow if your plans got canceled at the last minute.

Each is scheduled to happen from 9:30-10:45 AM Eastern, and will happen on Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. (With the short notice, we made it presenter’s choice.) Links will open no later than 9:15; arriving early is strongly encouraged to ensure the leader can get you let in before start time.

  • The Cult of Minimum Competitive Concept: JOIN US - Billfred Leverette, FRC 1293 (Pandamaniacs)
    • After a miserable 2018 season, the Pandamaniacs quit chasing shiny things and focused on building a Minimum Competitive Concept–a robot that could contribute to any playoff alliance while using the fewest resources. The result was moving from 5-5 and missing playoffs to becoming alliance captains (twice!) and having fun doing it. Join us for real talk, a close look at our favorite tricks, useful parts shopping lists, and ideas that you will very likely use on your 2022 machine.
    • Presented on Google Meet: https://meet.google.com/csr-dftw-qic
  • Game Day: A Drive Coach’s Perspective - David Allred, FRC 4451 (ROBOTZ Garage)
    • On-field success comes from focusing on the essentials long before you set foot on the carpet. Join us as David Allred, who coached ROBOTZ Garage to victory at the Palmetto Regional, Rocket City Regional, and SCRIW, walks you through developing and continuously improving strategies, as well as topics like drive team selection, scouting, team organization, and more.
    • Presented on Microsoft Teams: Click here to join the meeting
  • Judging Workshop - Dr. Trish Hayner, President of FIRST South Carolina and FRC Judge
  • Inspection Workshop - Chris Cortez, FIRST Senior Mentor and Lead Robot Inspector
