I haven’t seen pinning called super effectively/accurately in my 10 years in this program… I don’t think this team update does a whole lot to improve it.
It will be interesting to see if there’s a secret referee digest post associated with this team update. Can’t wait to see if pinning calls are more of a focus for referees this week.
I don’t believe FIRST had any language stating that they reserve the right to increase the RP requirement.
I don’t think it necessarily rules it out though
We talked about this on roundup last night. We mentioned that if they change it for one dcmp they should change it for all, but ISR DCMP already happened. Still hoping for champs.

I seem to remember this change for 2016 happening the Tuesday leading into Champs. Here’s the update from when that happened. (2016 Update log here)
Right, but there was also language in the manual that year (and 2017) indicating that a change like this could be expected. There’s no such language this year.
Blue box, section 3.1.4, 2016:
I don’t think it’s fair to do so before CMP.
Does there need to be?
I mean it’s up to FIRST so in that sense they don’t have to put anything in order to change it down the line. But given the precedent of including that clause in the past I’d be surprised to see them update the thresholds without that clause existing this year.
That’s a fair point. Our sample size is pretty small (5 recent years with ranking points, 2016-2020). Out of those, the only year where an RP threshold changed was one of the two years where a possible change was mentioned at kickoff. Granted, 2018-2019 didn’t have as obvious of a threshold to change, unless you count climb points to earn a RP. Nothing is impossible, but I personally wouldn’t expect to see a change at this point.
Care to explain why?
Edit: I might be misunderstanding and thinking you don’t want to change it at all - if you’re using the logic Nick said earlier i understand where that’s coming from
Have to agree here. Having different amounts for the same events punishes those who goes to those later events (either by choice or otherwise) by changing the rules from one event to another. Since ISR DCMP already came and went, id expect all other DCMP’s to follow the same scoring setups since that is what happened elsewhere.
arguably CMP falls under that same umbrella (why change 1 event if all others play under different rules), but it would be much harder to find someone that would really argue against an RP increase.
Yeah I think i misunderstood what they were saying
I hope they don’t because high ranking due to luck is easier when the threshold for extra rp is lower
Scorched earth is fun
Yeah, Mik said it better. I didn’t have time to expand when I wrote that post.
I was also operating under the assumption that a week 6 change would apply to regionals/districts as well, which I don’t like (and may not be accurate). There are still teams that haven’t competed yet; they should get to play the game as it was balanced at kick-off. Obviously that’s not fully possible, as other updates need to happen, but I feel any changes that are purely for game balance purposes should be avoided if at all possible within the same level of competition. Change things for DCMPs or CMP(s), but don’t throw a curveball at teams looking to compete for the first time this week or next.
Good change. A rule with no consequence isn’t really a rule, and this seems a reasonable consequence.
While I wouldn’t be surprised to see the RP thresholds shift, I would expect it more for DCMP week or for CMP than now.
Honestly, given how many eliminations alliances are electing to continue scoring cargo until the end of the match, I wouldn’t be surprised if match points for the climbs were increased for CMP and possibly DCMPs, either across the board or for elims, because this multistage climb (4907 excluded) is clearly more exciting/entertaining than continuing to shoot cargo.
There are more district championships this week than next. Week 6 seems to be the preference if feasible now to give teams more time to prepare for CMP.
I wish that was true for ALL district CMP’s.
We play our CMP in week 7. We have to decide late Saturday if we are going to World’s and have a couple of days to get to Houston
