FIRST could have banned robot bowling without making 2412’s design illegal. I really feel that singling out teams (2412 this year, 95 last year) that make creative designs with rule updates is a bad practice.
2412 checked with the QandA to see if this was legal, they spent the resources to build it, and it’s a perfectly safe mechanism. It should be allowed to compete in my opinion.

I find it really bad that they decided to ban this 13 days after Q&A 166 was answered instead of right then. This year, Q&A was been hesitant to ban things in the “grey zone”, snipe auto, truss climb, and so on.
For other things they banned such as immediately shooting caught cargo, they banned that as the Q&A was answered. GDC only banned this after 2412 spent considerable effort on this. This is inconsistent with their previous rulings and resulted in lots of wasted effort from 2412 that could’ve been spent elsewhere. And having seen 2412 chase reliability issues all season, this hurts them even more.

Sad it had to end like this. I know quite a few people are probably overjoyed the convoluted situations they made up in their heads can’t happen anymore, but papering over the hole in the rules they acknowledged weeks ago now rather than taking care of it when it was pointed it out is a pretty awful practice, to be honest. Nice to know that the GDC can shoot down your robot design if enough people post unhinged rants about why it should be illegal on the right forum.

It states that this is the final update of the season so I doubt they are planning any changes for after DCMP.

If you have a loophole-exploiting robot idea, please hold a meeting with the team and only proceed if 100% of the students are OK with the loophole being patched after they complete construction, but prior to competition.
Cargo RP should have been upped, too.
