Always a good event. I am looking forward to it.

That is quite the trek for 9001 Delta Force from Romania (~5,900 miles).

1898 hasn’t competed since 2011 so I am wondering what’s up with them, curiously lol

1898 and 8150 are both retired teams from Westside High School in Houston ISD. I believe they are going to try to have a team again in 2024 and my assumption is they are going to return to the original number.

We are now at 43 applied teams. This includes 4 alternate teams (B teams and a team of graduated seniors-9994). Capacity is set at 42 teams for the event, but if history serves we will end up with a few teams that need to drop out for various reasons. The alternate teams will be the first teams moved to the waitlist.

Invitations

We are inviting 48 teams to TRI for 2023 with the expectation that a few teams will decline as they have in previous years. Below is the complete list of invited teams.

We also have 5 alternate teams on our waitlist these include 4 B teams from competition teams and a team made up of 2023 FRC alumni. We will work out the invitation process for waitlist groups and communicate that with them. 48 is already 6 more teams than our original cap of 42 but we want to try to give as many teams a good experience as possible. At some point in future years, we will need to waitlist more teams but we think we can make it work this year even if all 48 teams do accept (we may have to do 9 qual matches per team instead of 10).

After much deliberation, and due to the unfortunate schedule conflict with IRI, I am happy to share that 118 has chosen to play at IRI and TRI concurrently. After such a relaxed competition schedule this season, we’re wanting to challenge ourselves.

This team list looks stellar, and we’re excited to attend another fantastic event put on by Spectrum.

I wonder where we’ll end up seeing 1561. Regardless of whether it’s Indiana or Texas, I hope it’s behind the same glass!

2023 TRI Rules Update - https://tinyurl.com/tri2023rules

Game Play Updates
We didn’t alter game play much this year except we are slightly changing the tape lines on the field.

  1. We noticed that the loading zones were minimizing defense and causing unnecessary penalties. This solution keeps the depth of the loading zone that some teams take advantage of but eliminates the majority of unnecessary penalties.

  2. We moved the tape line next to the Hybrid nodes up by 2 inches to provide more space for scoring in the low nodes. The intent is to remove questionable scoring calls and provide more room for supercharging.

Other Changes

  1. Video Review is back like always at our event (it works great and we should have it all events).
  2. Some other minor changes including a soft limit on the breaks between playoff matches to try to speed things up since we won’t have awards but as always we want 6 functional robots on the field as much as possible.
  3. General off-season updates to loosen the rules a little and makes things run smoothly.

Is the COMMUNITY also being redefined to end at the front faces of the hybrid node dividers rather than the grid-side edge of the tape? If not, auto placements within two inches of the dividers are now illegal.

Can you elaborate? Our understanding is the community is constrained by the alliance wall not the grid. So I’m not sure how this change would effect starting positions.

*Also did none of us catch this obvious typo where the definition is inserted twice.

Never mind, I apparently went the whole season misunderstanding where the community ended :person_facepalming:
