Hello! The Cyber Vipers (FRC Team 8717) are in the Daly division this year, and we would love to invite all teams competing in that division to scout with us using our Ssscouting App and share scouting information! Starting this season, we’ve made the data from our scouting app public!
The Cyber Vipers’ Ssscouting App for the 2024 Season has been specifically tuned for collaborative scouting, where teams can view information on themselves and other teams with the scouting data gathered from our team and any other team joining us in scouting. All of the data from our scouting app is managed by our team, accessible through the app itself or through a Google Sheet found in a folder I will link below.
To learn more about our app and how to download it, please see this post from our Strategy Lead! He’s more than willing to answer any questions about our app and how to use it! Otherwise, stop by our pit or ask anyone on our team to learn more about it at competition!
If you’re interested in using our app to scout at competitions or are interested in sharing scouting data, please let us know in this thread or any other platform we’re on! (Discord, Instagram, etc.)
Good luck to all of the teams competing at Champs this year! Can’t wait to see you all!
Team 9015 is bringing limited scouts to Houston and would love to do a collaboration. I just have a few questions: how would coordination of who is scouting which team be handled, and are there any plans to add a passing metric?
We could have one of our scouting leads coordinate it so that we are rotating scouters every 6-8 matches. As for how we would assign who is scouting what team, we would assign each scouter an alliance, then assign the team the order that it is shown on the jumbotron.
I’m not quite sure what you mean but I’m assuming that you mean if there is any plans to add a shuttling/tossing a note into their alliance wing metric. Currently there is no metric for that on the app but it can always be mentioned in the comments before submission.
We’ve found that shuttling/passing metric to be really important in informing pre-strategy and when making a pick list. Some teams will spend the entire match passing notes, and should not go unnoticed when they are bringing massive value to their alliance. If this metric is not something you can add to your platform as a numerical value that we can average, we are going to have to stick to using or own system, or find another team to do a collaboration with. If you are open to using our platform, that is also an option.
Here are some screenshots of our data visualization:
Perhaps we could do a solution in the middle, where we both use our own systems but share data during competition! We totally understand if our app isn’t exactly what you need for scouting, but we could still share the notes from our data.
We rely heavily on our visualization tool to summarize the data in a quick and easy to understand way. If we had to combine data coming from 2 different systems it would be very logistically/technically challenging. I think the only effective solution for us would be to work with data coming from one source. Ultimately if that source does not have data on passing then it becomes very difficult to make informed strategic decisions.
I understand that you want to have a visualization of the data. We have the ability to view the statistics, with both raw data and through visualization in our app as well! We have a question though: How does your app collect the data that is being used?
Here are some photos of the data found in our app:
We totally understand if this still isn’t what you’re looking for or want from our collaboration. We appreciate your willingness to try to work with our scouting application!
Our scouts first record the data on paper and then input the data into a google form. The paper is not nessisary, but we’ve found it’s easier to use than scrolling up and down the google form mid match. It’s also useful when cell service is poor, allowing us to keep a physical copy of the data to upload later. The data from the google form is then stored in a google sheet where we then do our data manipulation and visualization.
We would much rather use an app with a good user interface like yours, and porting data from your google sheet into ours would be no problem. But again, we just absolutely need the passing data in its own field and not intertwined with the comments.
