Knew we wouldn’t make it in 2024. Although the bot is worthy via EPA.
Knew we’d be in for 2023.
Pleasantly surprised by 2022.
Figured we wouldn’t make it in 2016, despite going via waitlist spot.
Definitely knew we wouldn’t make it in 2014, despite going via waitlist spot.
Makes sense we would have made it in 2013. Finalist Finger Lakes Week 1.

Looks like we’re on here (or did qualify) every year except our rookie year.

Both teams I’ve been on show up a decent number of times across both sides of the list:

  • 2240 2022: Would qualify under the new system but didn’t
  • 2240 2019: Would qualify for 2 champs under the new system but didn’t
  • 1339 2019*: Attended champs but wouldn’t qualify under the new system
  • 1339 2018: Would qualify for 1 champs under the new system but didn’t
  • 2240 2017*: Attended champs but wouldn’t qualify under the new system
  • 1339 2017: Wouldn’t qualify for 1 champs under the system, would and did qualify for 2 champs
  • 2240 2016: Would qualify under the new system but didn’t
  • 1339 2016: Qualified for worlds but wouldn’t under the new system

*: Denotes team got in through the open waitlist

Believe it or not 1323 hasn’t been a powerhouse for all that long, they actually ranked dead last in their division that year and were “only” 2nd Pick of Alliance 3

This is off-topic from the thread, but basically what Cooper said. “Global powerhouse 1323” didn’t pop up until like 2018 or so.

2015 was actually a fairly rough year for them, but I like posting that screenshot because it’s so improbably scary in today’s context.

Does anyone have any idea how many spots will be allocated by points in the 2025 system, or what the points cutoff would be? Is there any way to simulate previous years with the 2025 system to get a feel for how it works?

It depends on how many “wild cards” are generated. You can calculate the number for 2024 but it isn’t necessarily indicative of 2025.

As @BordomBeThyName said, the difference between 2025 and 2026 is that 2025 is more similar to previous years and thus more random. A feature of the points system is that less luck is necessary to do well and make it to CMP, and this is (part of) why it is being implemented. That means that running the 2025 simulation on 2024 won’t be the best predictor of how next year will go.

3161 gains 2012 (Awesome robot, our only #1 seed ever at GTRW) :smiley: but loses 2014 (EI win, 0-2 in quarters as a7/8 at both regionals)
