2024 Rules Quiz

Hi Everyone,

Here is a rules quiz I made for the year. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Thanks and GL

Just did it, I got 8/18 which isn’t bad considering how specific it was! As a drive coach I’m more on the end of “if it’s bad don’t do it”, I’d love to see an extra question or two sprinkled in about number of points, times, robot sizes, shooting zones, etc.

Also did the quiz! The biggest mistakes I made were caused by my brain thinking that a Tech foul is very detrimental, but feels like this year you will get a tech foul for almost any small violation, if not multiple.

Yeah this year a lot of things are TFs

There are 2 mistakes in the quiz.

First is “Team 9999 has not passed inspection and shows up to their match when it begins. What rule if any is called?”

This is an alliance red card. Not only team 9999.

Also the second question is “Team 9999 damages one Game piece in Match 3. They then damage another game piece in match 13. What happens.”

This should be 2 verbal warnings as repeated has a very specific meaning in the manual.

I don’t think it is a good quiz for drivers, I would prefer them to know all the rules and the scoring table rather than the punishments for these rules.
That might be a better quiz for referees

I got 11/18 I think that is pretty good. The biggest ones I got wrong were the 3 related to human interaction with the game.

These are all being shared as I go through and don’t know what you have set as the answers.

  1. This rule is listed as 0 points. It’s also worth noting you’re likely to get the last sentence of the rule discussed beyond the violations
  2. Nothing here
  3. Nothing here
  4. Nothing here
  5. “collides” does leave for multiple answers. It’s possible to be in a collision without initiating. In that case, the answer is different.
  6. Lacking context, there are 3 potential correct answers here
  7. With the way you’re wording this, I’m assuming you’re attempting to state “touched but not interacted with” though I suspect in practice, you’re going to get the “touching a controller is directly interacting with it” explanation in a question box. You’ll also want to change the question. None of the answers are a rule. It asks which rule is called.
  8. This is one of my fav rule changes this year
  9. Change “their” to match the color you want. With both the blue robot and 9999 mentioned, either one is an appropriate interpretation of “their”
  10. Nothing here
  11. “which rule is called” again without rules in the answers. It could also use a slight change to the question. “Shows up” and “participates in” are slightly different. If you show up to the match (and your head referee is doing what they should be), you’ll be turned away before the match starts to make sure nothing else happens. Nothing would be called in the vast majority of these instances.
  12. Nothing here
  13. Nothing here
  14. This one I’m honestly not sure. Given how rules break down, there’s two reasonable ways to interpret the result.
  15. I’ll be sad if your answer isn’t “nothing”
  16. This one also lacks context. There are multiple correct answers as a result
  17. I know the answer to this one and I suspect it isn’t the same as the one you’ll have.

General thoughts: For a rules specific quiz, it helps to capitalize words that are capitalized in the manual. These are defined terms. There’s also a few places where context is important. A final thought is to remember things practically play out different than a literal interpretation at times. It’ll help to share that.

I assume this is something intended for your team. It’s a great start to get people thinking about rules =)

Post viewing your results - The operator console one played out as I described as practical versus literal. The last one was actually what I was hoping to see =)
