Makes sense. An air game would be the perfect follow-up to the 2024 water game.

I do wonder if the weight limit would have to change and if FAA would make every team get their “driver” licensed under Part 107 though

Indoor spaces aren’t airspace, the FAA has no jurisdiction.

To put a serious hat on a joke response for a second, the actual issues are integral to FRC’s structure. The E-Stop button is no longer a viable way to keep people near the field safe when the robots can fly; you’d need a completely enclosed space to ensure a safe environment, even beyond 2013’s netting. It’s hard to imagine something like that that would also be assured to work in all the types of venues used to host FRC events.

I’ll actually toss in FIRST’s only foray into college-level competitions: CARD ended up being a one-shot event for HQ, though I seem to recall an outside group taking the concept and running with it for a couple years later. Air and ground robots were involved.

And the field was wrapped in heavy-duty mesh to contain the drones.

Maybe it will be a game where you are not allowed to put wheels on the ground… Hovercraft!

In a game called “Preserve the Carpet”, teams will only be allowed 2 propulsion motors.

What I think will happen WATER GAME. The name will come out as a nautical or underwater-themed game and kickoff will roll around and it will be a dry field with some random game element shaped like water drops and a rope climb end game. (In other words 2017 but with sea ships)

There will be 6 robots divided into 2 alliances at a time. They will do autonomous and teleop. with something at the end.
