Blog post: Just a few days until Kickoff!
For the people who are new here, every year FIRST encrypts the files just prior to Kickoff.
The password to decrypt them will be revealed during Kickoff. Until then, itās up to you to speculate, analyze, and theorize!

Additional Season Materials:
I had to make sure it wasnāt a rickroll before opening
For others (like myself) who asked āWhy is there already an update?ā
Itās the evergreen rule changes.
Evergreen Rule Changes (2023 ā 2024 Ver.)
FIRST nearly gave me a heart attack a few days ago; i changed ā2024ā to ā2025ā in the 2024 manual url and it seemingly worked
wait so likeā¦ was the game leaked??
Only the title page (1 of 1 in the top left)
fortunately (or maybe not), it wasnāt. right below (i didnāt save photos) it just said something like āseason materials releasing soon. Find them here.ā
I did trick a few of my friends into thinking i had leaked the game, donāt know if theyāve realized yet lol
Oh, yeah, it does say that in the corner
Looks like college apps may have taken a beating on my mental capacityā¦
At least you have two days to rest your brainā¦ however kickoff will drain it
Interestingā¦ looks like the Solidworks Field file size is drastically smaller than the past few years. I thought @Daler99 's analysis last year was pretty reflective on what were on the fields.
at ~63mb this field is drastically smaller. Granted for all I know that file type might support some sort of count field that just iterates common structures to reduce the file size. But fun to speculate.
Maybe instead of walls or obstacles blocking high-speed collisions, the field is mostly open, but there are way more protected zones?
maybe they put in a simplified field elements and fields to reduce the burden on peopleās computers
I kind of doubt that mostly because the entire point of the field CAD is to give an accurate sense of the field. Some things canāt be achieved with simplified models.
Yeah, no clue. On quick search it does look like the spec of STEP files do support some sort of quantity so maybe its multiple occurrences of the same assembly. Although you could say that about the prior games too, so I donāt know what to think.
It would be funny that everyone predicted with all the field damage concerns, propulsion limits, and with recent games being fairly āopenā, that first just leans the other way and makes it even wider.
Could you compare it too other ānot open - fieldā seasons?
Like 2019, 2016 or even 2018
Hmm, Iām sure there out there somewhere but I couldnāt easily find them on the website. I was particularly interested in 2014, that had to be the most āopenā game ever.
2019 - 278mb
2018 - 120mb
Iām now thinking maybe its a flaw to say File Size is directly correlated with how āopenā a field is. The larger the file probably the more entities are with in it. So you could just have simpler models. So a lot of this might just come down to the complexity of the modeling?
Although as I say this, 2024-2019, thinking through the fields and what structures were on the fieldsā¦ kinda checks out.
Stillā¦ 66MB is very small relative to prior games.
Alright I gotta give this a rest
I wonder if the truss structure is being used this year. It must add a bunch to the file size.
