Please read the blog post about ALGAE (linked in the update) carefully, the inflation spec has changed to make the different versions act more similarly, this impacts the diameter of ALGAE
Further discussion on ALGAE prior to Team Update 02 can be found here:
So it seems the main change is specifically the orientation of the algae in the inflation jig? Nvm the jig is completely new altogether
I assume through testing they found this diameter to have the least amount of variance between the two when inflated
The nominal diameter and tolerance has changed. NOTABLY the maximum diameter has not changed.
(although with the inflation jig information we can hopefully avoid the hassle of 2019 inflation issues, so you are correct to point this out imo)
Yeah Iām glad (and surprised?) to see the variance go from +/- .5 to +/- .25. Not sure if it wouldāve impacted the game much, but cool that they found a way to have better tolerances, even if the circumstances were unforeseen
Props to Collin and HQ for some exceptional transparency given this unexpected situation! Did not expect sales numbers.
If all of the Algae at competition will be crosshatch, thereās really no need to test with the clamshell version so long as you have enough of the crosshatch version. I expect the top teams will quarantine their clamshells now.
Is there any idea whether new Algae ordered from AndyMark will be of the crosshatch or clamshell variety?
This isnāt ādeal with it.ā This is āthereās a problem, weāre acknowledging it, it wonāt be perfect, weāre sorry,ā and trying the best they can to come up with a solution. It is very much appreciated.
our preorder was all crosshatch. not clam
This is the coolest part. Really appreciate the transparency from FIRST!
I feel like this is more on the ball company that didnāt send FIRST what they ordered than FIRST for not being able to send everyone a whole new set of game pieces. The supplier is telling us to deal with it, HQ is telling us how we should do that.
āClamshellā would have been more on themeā¦
Same here, just came in today
All 6 of our algae are clamshell. Oof.
I really like what theyāre doing with the processor. I had a lot of concerns regarding intentional collusion/blocking of the processor, as well as legality of scoring in the opponentās processor; good to see these both directly addressed in the team updates.
I donāt know if thatās necessary a bad thing. It could be
profitable.
They also answered the āCan you earn the auto RP if one of your robots is A-stopped without leaving the line?ā And the answer is āNo.ā Now, itās not āare you enabled or notā but, āhave you been BYPASSED or not.ā
Iām surprisedā¦ they still havenāt addressed the intersection of 6.5.2
An ALGAE is scored in a NET if it is above the NET and within the perimeter of the NET.
and G420
A ROBOT may not contact either NET or any ALGAE scored in a NET.
which makes scoring algae by placing (instead of shooting) them in the net effectively illegal, since the algae becomes scored as soon as it crosses over the boundary of the net, so the robot is violating G20 from that point until it releases the algae.
Q37 and Q42 both asked about this.
Glad they clarified hitting the a-stop does not count for Auto RP, good decision!
