2723 Team Rocket officially ends their 11 year blue banner drought

With their Chairman’s Award win at the Greater Kansas City regional 2723 has officially gained their first team wide blue banner. Although they had a Woodie Flowers Finalist last year (shout out to him for being an amazing force for FIRST in Oklahoma) this is their first whole team blue banner in their 11 year history. Congratulations.

And make it double.

Congrats on the banner. I didn’t make it over to your team to learn more about the team this week, so I regret that. But you are making a great impact. When they were talking some about the work with the State of Oklahoma, it reminded me about some of our team history and something I had found in our archives of old VHS tapes. When we started we were mentored to our Champs Rookie All-Star by Tonya Scott from Ponca City 476. In a tape she gave us back then it showed their team with their 2002 robot with the then governor of Oklahoma talking about FIRST. So I’m glad you continue that legacy for the teams in your state. I’m becoming more interested in policy relating to FIRST at the state level, and what works, so I’d be happy to hear your teams thoughts on that.

(I can guess who made the original post - you aren’t fooling anyone, Mr.!)

Hi all, thanks so much - it’s been a crazy 5-year journey since a group of 5 new friends decided to get together and not let the school’s FRC team die. The last two of those kids graduated recently, but they are doing amazing things and have left quite a legacy in addition to their personal accomplishments that I am going to brag on:

  1. Freshman of the year at a large top 100 university
  2. Dean’s List Finalist & Computer Engineering major with a great internship
  3. US Marine Corps
  4. Mechanical engineer - got into MIT but went to Notre Dame
  5. Deans List Winner (4X Finalist FRC/FTC) Aerospace Engineering major with a great internship as a freshman

And we’ve got some amazing student leaders who are continuing that legacy but I will wait until they graduate to brag on them so they don’t get too big of a head! They are so passionate about FIRST and other things that help make the world a better place, and such good people.

@ngreen, I don’t have a lot I can add about working with the state government but because I wasn’t directly involved in that, but I know that it was initiated by an FTC team (11354) who are a great group of kids and they (and FRC 932) just invited our kids along for the ride because they knew we were interested in starting a new initiative. Our kids learned a lot on their visit and have some ideas going forward. We also have some stuff going on with our city that we can expand on later, but the bigger problem with FIRST in Oklahoma is SUSTAINABILITY more than anything else. We’ve got a lot of work to do.
