2959 Robotarians 2016 Render

Well, design is pretty much done… frames are off to the powder coating and work is being done to make all the little parts.

Just wanted to share our design.

Looks great!

Looks cool, can you share more about what’s going on inside the frame? Ie. do you have a floor intake, etc. Also, I haven’t yet figured out how your hanging mechanism is going to work, or what that roller at the top of the robot is for. Loading from the human player?

If I didn’t know any better I would have thought that was a robot for the 2012.5 game Rebound Ascent.

Well I am a programming mentor but let me give it a shot.

It has a floor pick up via the roller on top… it is actually attached to “Magic Arm 2.0”, which is the carbon fiber arms there. It lowers down to pull in the ball which is brought in through the frame, then the pickup lifts the ball and gets it into a holding position before it is fired.

The arm can also pull down the doors and lift the portcullis.

The hanging mechanism… well that isn’t meant to lift the robot just the straps (which aren’t in the render). It will shoot up in a second or so to the bar then will tilt forward grabbing the bar. Then we will shift the 6 drive motors (4 CiMs and 2 Mini Cims) over to the winch which will life the robot.

Neat looking robot. Just wondering how the hanging mechanism is going to work as it looks like it is tucked inside the front of the robot?

The hooks will be against the castle then they shoot up to the height of the bar. They will be slightly tilted back when they fire, then they will snap into place and the winch will pull us up. Takes very little pnuematics to extend it.

Looks great! I’m sure the fit and finish will be up to your normal expectations! Can’t wait to see you guys at Mason (Lansing) this year! It’s been a couple of years since we’ve been able to compete together!

Thanks for the answer good luck this year!

Looks very nice! The intake and shooter reminds me of 2012.
Any reason why you are choosing not to go under the low bar? Or does the whole thing down oragami-like to fit under 16"?

To be honest we are opting not to go under the low bar either but to each their own haha

According to all the polls that have been put out about it, most teams will be low bar capable. This makes it less valuable. If they feel like they can build a more efficient scorer without that 16" limitation, then it’s a smart decision.

Awesome looking robot. If everything goes as planned, I’m sure you’ll be very competitive.

We went back and forth over the low bar, but decided that trying to fit everything we wanted that small would have limited how we wanted to do it.

Figured that a lot of bots are going to be able to do the low bar, but most of them will sacrifice something else to do it. We should be able to do everything but the low bar. We put a lot into not being a pushover this year. Besides going over pretty much any obstacle we don’t want to be push around. The robot has 2 speeds, one for speed and one for lower speed but some pushing power.

Our shooter also works better by being up a bit higher, increases our accuracy. The higher we shoot from the easier it is to line up. We should be able to shoot pretty much from anywhere in the courtyard… assuming the programming group gets our vision tracking working like we hope.

I hope not, that’s a FOUL and YELLOW CARD. :stuck_out_tongue:

Since I won’t be getting over to a district event on the west side, I’m hoping to see you at MSC.

Hey… you saved us 20 pounds… we can drop the jet pack. Now the laser cannon… that is still needed I assume.
