I have a pneumatic tire I bought a while back that I am considering trying to use as a shooting “flywheel”. The problem is that it has what appears to be a 3/4" round keyed hole. I would much prefer to use 1/2" hex as it seems everything else is going that way. What would be your suggestions on making it spin with the modern FIRST ecosystem.
I would just buy new wheels or hubs if possible. WCP and AndyMark both sell them.
Alternatively, you could broach a hex bore into the wheel, but it will probably break the wheel.
Would love to hear how you broach a 1/2" hex into a 3/4" hole.
To answer the OP: Try printing or machining a plastic adapter, with a metal key in between. You’re a little short on space though, and it may strip out, so it might not work so well, but it’s worth a shot.
Of course I covered the hole with tape measure
The new picture makes it a lot clearer. Can you take the metal insert out that the hole is in? Is it a metal flanged hub sandwiched between the two plates, or is it just a cylinder?
It may be as simple as recreating that metal piece but with your desired bore (1/2" hex instead of 3/4" round)
It has a 4-bolt pattern… but what about taking those bolts out and making your own 6-bolt pattern to match a standard hex hub? Bonus if two of the holes already line up, it’ll help you ensure you get things lined up properly!
