Our alliance at the Greater Kansas City Regional just completely our last final match, winning, with starting two rotors in auto and haveing all four rotors done at the end with all robots having climbed the rope. Both of those are firsts. (Our alliance was ctc inspire 5801, bronco bots 1987 and cryptonite 624)
Oh… sorry about that
Very Nice!
What was your score?
Dave
I am 1987’s pilot, we never used the reserve gear in auto.
This was our last match of the day and we got 494 points.
To help clarify some questions earlier as well, I helped a lot with pilot strategy so hopefully I can help.
All three robots on our alliance of course had a gear autonomous, but very different speeds – almost every time, 1987 finished first, then us (5801), then 624. Whichever pilot grabbed the first gear would stick around instead of going to engage the first rotor, instead focusing on retrieving the third gear while the other pilot finished getting the second. They could then put one up on the first rotor while the other pilot had two gears in hand, able to put them on and get the second rotor started up, hopefully within autonomous.
We continued a similar strategy throughout the match in order to consistently get all four rotors spinning, not engaging the third until we had enough gears collected to do so, instead keeping them in a stack by the pilots in order to cut down on trips back and forth across the airship. Same for the fourth rotor. Not related to autonomoua either but we emphasised getting the fourth rotor turning over climbing if we only had one or two gears left in order to do so, as the 40 for a rotor and extra 100 for all four was more beneficial than two climbs.
We definitely hope to see some more teams getting it, and hopefully we can do it again at Champs.
Correction: 469, we got the higher score a later match I believe (?)
Yesterday at the Greater Kansas City Regional the winning alliance got a 3 gear 2 rotor turn in Autonomous twice, once during the simi-finals and once during the finals. The alliance was teams 1987, 624 and 5801. They also had a match where they scored 494 points. Only 5 pts from fuel. Three amazing gear running teams. The alliance went undefeated from the quarter finals to the finals. 6-0
I really doubt that there will be many 2 rotor autos. Even if all robots manage to place a gear I don’t think that time constraints will allow a pilot to place 3 gears. Keeping in mind they have to crank the rotor 3 times. As I have seen a pilot is barely able to place 1 gear in time.
Did you read the thread before you posted? Please consider doing that before you post. You might miss something that’s already been said.
Here’s a link to the second 2 rotor autonomous that our alliance scored in the final championship match of the Greater Kansas City Regional yesterday: https://youtu.be/ANYH14XXSk4
Awesome work by our alliance airship pilots!
Team 103’s alliance at MAR SCH almost pulled it off multiple times but never quite got it. I believe one of the robots kept placing a gear on the very tip so the Pilots had to be careful bringing it up. They missed it by just a second one time though.
And BTW 2 of the 3 had passive gear delivery systems.
Had a 2-rotor auto at Ventura–but with the reserve gear being pulled. Oops.
Team 103 just barely got the two rotor auto in their second semi finals match at SCH. Pilot one pulled up 103’s gear, left the gear carriage on the floor. He then pulled up 5420’s gear and put it on the second rotor. Pilot two pulled up 4342’s gear, put it on rotor two’s handle then put 103’s gear on rotor one. Pilot One spun the second rotor and the rotor engaged with one second left in auto. 103 and 4342 were on the side pegs. The match video is on YouTube.

(Edit: it broke, now fixed)
Our alliance made the 2nd rotor with about a second or less remaining. Amazing work by the pilots to get all 3 gears placed in time!
Semis 2 Match 2
136 points total in autonomous
356 total match score
Yes you did. Congratulations.
TBA has 4 total on insights. I see three on this thread, which one am I missing? (2 at GKC, 1 at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy)
Ventura.
Assisted by the reserve gear… I don’t recall which match.
I looked for it and I believe it is the Quarters 1 Match 2 2017 MAR District - Westtown which according the above used the reserve gear.
I don’t see it on insights for Ventura.
Might have been Q74, and might have been a shade after auto. There was definitely a serious run at it during auto.
I am very impressed by alliances that pull this off! You must also have particularly well behaving “sliders” and straight springs. I have seen some experienced pilots having a very hard time because field was not perfect.
So, many planets must align for this to happen!
