Props to 2451 for being the first full fledged shooter bot to run a 3 cube scale auto in competition.
Scratch that, not just two but 3 teams had working three cube autos on the field at McMaster! 2056, 1325 and 5406! If you think Ontario isn’t the strongest region in the world your kidding yourself.
3 on the opposite side scale is definitely impressive. We cut our “OSC” auto down to 2 because in order to make 3 work the accelerations rocked the robot so much it was scary to watch (OK, that and the other 2 cubes were dicey enough as it was).
Interestingly - we ran “sides” with 4976 Revolt in playoffs at McMaster. Revolt had a 2 cube auto on their side, and we had a 3 cube auto on our side. In 8 out of 8 playoff matches, the scale came up our side. The team should have bought a lottery ticket yesterday!
Props to 1325 and 2056 for making us sweat through the autonomous period, and a shout-out to 4308 who were a steal for second pick, and who took care of both sides of the switch in auto for our alliance.
Edit: I am remiss for not mentioning our other opponents, especially 1241 and 6135 who managed to find time to play sick D against our alliance while still scoring (yipes!) Also to 2200 for seeding so high, and building a great alliance - it was great to meet during playoffs after practicing with them at our field the weekend before.
You done did him dirty Mike. California events are my go to for learning how FRC games will play at high levels. Too bad I don’t get the opportunity to see you guys in person Seeing 2056, 1114 and company isn’t such a bad consolation though
You mean having so little competitive depth that your unable to put together competitive elimination matches? Nah, Ontario doesn’t have that #morethanpowerhouses
Anyway ONDCMP is this week. You’ll probably see at least one team do it there. Scoring on the opposing scale is pretty useless if your opponent across from you also has a 3 cube auto. By the time you’ve driven across the field you’ve already lost auto.
Hey man, it’s totally OK to be enthusiastic about your region without tearing others down. We have a ton of awesome teams in California that I’m proud to play with and against every year.
Your words do not reflect well on the team you associate with, but then again I am sure you don’t speak for them.

Nono Mike, his signature says, “My posts are often intended to encourage discussion and may not be the opinion of me or my team.”
That was harsh, I have to agree with Mike on this one… Both areas are great and I miss seeing the California teams play.
1323 also ran a 3 cube scale auto on quals at CVR, but I haven’t taken the time to find the video.
That’s an odd statement. It sounds like you’re saying if you’ve guessed wrong and the scale isn’t on your side, you might as well not bother playing the rest of the match. I think having a 3 cube OSC is about the only way you have a chance to catch up.
How about we just decide which region has the best auto when they go head to head at worlds. Oh wait…
Here is the match where they pulled this off:
Hey mman1506, there really isn’t a need for that kind of talk here. It reflects really poorly on you and your team.
California is full of awesome teams and is where the coolest robots and the absolute highest level of play is seen. What makes me so proud about Ontario is the competitiveness and the competence of the lower tier teams. We have 2nd picks who build practice robots, scout and have complex autos. Even our top tier teams are often from socioeconomically diverse schools. I think it’s important to look at the strength of an area as a whole rather than just at the top.
I’m part of the combat robot community and many of the builders are alumni or were mentors of FRC teams. I was very disappointed to find out after speaking to them very few had a positive experience in FRC. The large majority of these people weren’t from powerhouse teams but just your average FRC team. It often came down to poor organization, mentor issues, favoritism, volunteer issues. I even spoke to one parent who specifically looked into moving close to a school with a good FRC program to send his kids to. He was unable to find one in the public system that wasn’t plagued with issues.
When I started out in FRC my experience was a overwhelmingly negative one. I’m so proud that they’ve transformed to strong program. I really hope that one day every student in FRC has a positive experience.
My apologies if my comment came off as negative. I often think CD’s view of the FRC is rather short sighted and I think all of us can do better at raising up the rest of the competition. I really want to see everyone doing their best and my comment was not in line with that goal.
Building up an entire region is so important. I hope 1678 is doing our part to build up the teams California, I’d like to believe our first RCA this year is an indicator of making steps towards those goals. But, of course, there is always more work to be done!

291 just joined the club! We placed 3 cubes perfectly in time against 2056 in Telsa quarters (then went on to get wrecked, ::ouch:: congrats 2056, 1241, and 2869!) As you can tell by my reaction, I had been waiting for a near scale randomization for a very long time!
Wow! I will definitely not be buying lottery tickets anytime soon. Haha.
4678 also had a 3 cube auto in the Tesla division last week.
