3 x 5" wheels?

Hi so

The Tetrix All Terrain Tire has official dimensions of 5", but the tread seems to add almost another inch in Inventor. I’ve tried to put three wheels together on one side. With the current spacing to avoid part interference, and to stay within the size limit of 18", There’s less than 2mm between the outermost of these wheels. I’ve heard that these wheels do squish and deform, which means they might actually touch each other when pressed down with the weight of the bot. I haven’t actually seen a bot use three of these wheels on one side before, but if anyone has, or has tried it, is there actually a problem or is this just a misrepresentation?

I’m not sure why you would want to use the Tetrix All-terrain tires, other than the part that they may look a little cool to you. I highly recommend against using these. Every team I have seen use these has problems, and never makes it past state/regional. Each tire is about 2 inch wide as well…

Is there a reason you need to have 3, 5" wheels on one side? Side by side, or in a row?

I highly recommend wheels from Andymark.com, as some are cheaper, while all of them provide better traction on the FTC Mats. (i.e Stealth Wheels, Plaction, or Performance)

Sounds something like an FTC version of a 6 Wheel Drivetrain

I highly recommend against using these. If you REALLY want six wheels for (I’m assuming) driving up the mountain, try some 4" plaction wheels (if the 5" is really important you could machine your own) :smiley:

Thanks for the advice, as I said before, we really haven’t ever had much to do with the Tetrix ATT so we don’t know terribly much about its performance.
Apart from the ones already mentioned (AM plaction/performance), are there any other wheels recommended? Thanks for the responses

You’re welcome! :smiley: Only other thing I can think of is VEXpro VersaWheels. They’re the closest thing you can get to the banned white AM wheels regarding traction.

If you’re dead set on 5" diameter wheels,VEX EDR has some. Interfacing with Tetrix will require some creativity.

Whelp decided to knock out a modified 5" version of the am-2031 in Inventor, now with directly compatible Tetrix holes
Not sure if machining/milling it would be feasible later though
