Hi all,
Today we were stopped at inspection for using 30A and 20A snap action Breakers on the new PDH. The RI said that because they didn’t seat in all the way they weren’t legal. After some back and forth, we found a post by a rev employee who said we could use them. However, this was not in the official documentation, and they were looking for official documentation on it’s safety. My question is, is there any way we can get word from rev in an official manner on whether the old snap action Breakers may be used?
This inspector is wrong. Those breakers work and are legal in the PDH. R619 makes them explicitly legal.
@ChuckDickerson - FYI
What did the LRI say?
Even REV’s official breakers are known to not seat all the way in on the PDH. Snap Action’s breakers should be a non-issue.
They agreed with us, albiet they weren’t happy about it
Edit: spelling
I had that happen once with the PDP and offered to use tin snips to make the blades a bit shorter.
Had about the intended effect. Sometimes the blades are just a tad long and its more obvious than with a “normal” breaker.
Marshall is correct. R619 is the appropriate rule and there is no specification as to how far they are supposed to “seat” in the rules. It would be good practice to make sure they are firmly seated and pushed in adequately but this is not specified in the robot rules and the RI should not argue the point nor delay an inspection sticker because of it.
@Cory.L What event?
Not only is it legal, but the answer to Q&A 25 specifies that the 40A REV breakers are legal too!
This is Dalton in the PCH district. Event code GADAL
