3d printing problems

Hey guys. I’ve been trying out a 3d printer, the anet a8, but it won’t print. When I tell it to print, it follows the path that it should follow to print, but no material comes out the nozzle, and the printer makes a thumping noise. I didn’t know where else to ask, but if someone could point me to a 3-d printing forum, I’d be happy to ask there too.
Thanks so much guys!

Try raising your hotend temperature. It’s pretty common for the extruder to “click” if it’s trying to jam filament through, instead of melting it properly.

Thanks, I’ll try that.

I have a question though. I’m using PLA, and my printer temperature is 200 degrees Celsius, so shouldn’t it be fine at that temperature?

Not necessarily.

Different filaments react to the same temperature slightly differently. Look carefully at what the filament says it should print at, then start from there.

Also, if I were you, I’d back out, trim, and re-load the filament if you haven’t done that yet. 99% chance you have a wheel-shaped groove in the side.

The extruder could be clogged. Have you ever gotten material through it since you started?

Also, pull the filament out and check it. When it gets stuck like that, the extruder can eat away a small section, you’ll want to trim it off.

I pulled the filament after I tried to print. Aren’t you supposed to remove it whenever you finish printing?
I’m really new at this, so I don’t know what you are supposed to do to take care of a printer.

Actually, you’re not supposed to remove it whenever you finish printing*. You remove it when you need to tend to it, change the filament (for any reason including being short on filament for your next print), or do maintenance on the print head that would result in the filament being in the way.

*Unless the printer’s manual specifically says to do so, that is. If it does, follow the manual and start saving up for a better printer.

Ok, thanks for the info

When you removed it, was there a bulge at the end? trim that off and try again.

I cut it off, and it works now. Thanks so much for everything guys!
