Our team has decided to create a Kickstarter campaign to help fund us this year, and we would appreciate your help getting out the word!
As an aside, what are some good places to post this to besides reddit, facebook, and the local newspaper? Online or just in general. Our team appreciates your input!
I had looked at Kickstarter earlier this summer, but I had thought we would be in violation of the charity funding prohibition clause. Did I misread the restrictions on Kickstarter or was there a way around what I saw?
I looked up the clause in question:
Everything on Kickstarter must be a project. A project has a clear goal, like making an album, a book, or a work of art. A project will eventually be completed, and something will be produced by it.
Kickstarter does not allow charity, cause, or “fund my life” projects. Check out our project guidelines for details.
So the Red Cross couldn’t go on Kickstarter and say “help us raise money for Sandy victims” because that’s not a specific goal or project. Since we have a specific project and goal in mind with tangible results coming from that, we fall within the guidelines.
I’d also like to ask if you guys could please spread this link around as much as possible, since it appears that the local paper is pulling back on their offer to write an article about us despite having previously promised to do so. They were our primary source of advertising the kickstarter link, and despite having posted it on multiple sources of social media including multiple facebook pages, crowdfunding forums, and reddit we’re not doing quite so well.
Cool. We’ll have to look at this for some stuff…
