$5,000 Scholarships up for grabs

Now that the robot is in the box, it’s time to think about other things.

This is my annual reminder that the American Society of Mechanical Engineers FIRST Scholarships are out there for the taking. These scholarships are transportable, in that they can be used by FIRST grads pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree at any accredited college/university.

I’ve been in contact with ASME and they informed me that the number of applications are a bit low this year. With nine scholarships available, the odds of winning $5,000 are pretty high.

The due date is March 1 and requires an external letter of support, so now is the time to get to work on your application.

Best of luck to all - Vince

ASME 5K FIRST Scholarship

News Flash - As of today, there were only 4 applications for the 9 scholarships. The deadline has been extended to March 7 to get more applications.

Lacking any way to politically state the obvious - these scholarships are a GOOD DEAL and EASY MONEY.

On a serious note, if FIRST participants do not apply, the funding agencies lose their interest in offering the scholarships. With $5K in transportable money for FIRST grads interested in Mechanical Engineering, it would be hard to create a more applicable scholarship program.

If I plan on attending an engineering school but may not be majoring in ME am I still eligable for these scholarships?

I’ll inform all the seniors on my team.
