Seriously thought you had a drill press for giveaway and was gonna pounce on it when I read the title Best of luck to you guys this season!
Nope no drill presses to give away lol. I updated the title for you. Good luck this season to you as well!
Bonus points for the shots sounding like a monster serving a tennis ball.
The real teaser is this (;
Never. Again.
What is this distance?
Around 27 ft away from the goal.
Can we all stop this “drill press” or “angle grinder” or “cover the important stuff with a meme” teasers? Seriously stop. Folks are literally showing you entire robots made in a week and you want to hide your mechanism?
There is no requirement to be open with your designs. Especially this early in the season, with something so good as what is being covered by the coffee grinder or the drill press. I actual appreciate them not revealing it because if they did, everyone would be able to recreate it. Instead, they have revealed teasers and a couple of specs and challenged people to try to “match” them. I don’t see this as bad, but rather something that inspires others (including myself) by showing it is possible.
Wow I guess we need to start using ryobi now
We actually don’t use ryobi drill presses or own any ryobi equipment. We prefer the 12v Milwaukee line of tools. This includes the drill, reciprocating saw, electric riveter. The drill press is an inside joke on our team.
Sure they aren’t required to be open with their design, but I bet a substantial amount of FIRSTChoice credits that they have a shooter that was inspired by one of the many teams that are open about their design and process. The argument becomes,"We saw this cool idea online and we created our own version of it. Let’s post what we have online but let’s not show anyone how we did it. " The idea of taking from the community and not giving back to it doesn’t sit well with me.
It is just as inspirational to my business-side students to come up with the meme (we’re thinking hand-in-potato-chip-bag or a couple of other goodies) as it is for the technical-side students to make the thing being memed.
I say just roll with it. They’re teasers, after all.
It’s week 2 bud, I think you need to take a breather and relax a little. I’m pretty confident a team like 5460 wasn’t heavily dependent on the work by any of the “open alliance” or Ri3D teams when it comes to their shooter.
Teasers are meant to be fun. If you don’t enjoy it, go elsewhere.
