Hello FIRST robotics Community, I wanted to take a minute to highlight our program. Over the past 2 years our school district have been dedicated to expanding these pathways to our students and the community at large.
- Computer Science
- Entrepreneurship
- Engineering
- Precision Machining
- Welding
We were able to create 4 makerspaces at each school with a Maker-Manager running each space like a modern-day librarian. Our Robotics students have been instrumental in helping our Maker-Managers by instructing K-8 students, our future engineers, in those new and amazing spaces.
Our Team worked with the Saint Joseph Boys and Girls Club (SJBGC) to develop and implement a state-of-the-art Mobile Makerspace that will travel to the 26 club sites within our County to bring the experience to students whose schools aren’t able to have their own brick-and-mortar makerspace.
We also just cut the ribbon on our new “Future Lab.” This space is designed to break down the barriers between K-12 Education and the Industrial world. Our students work hand in hand with professionals to help design and fabricate industrial prototypes. Our district students are learning through hands on training how to design, setup, and run this modernized equipment. Our Robotics team members have been essential across all these new makerspaces to instruct and mentor in the district. Their expertise with this equipment is heavily leveraged at our 2 Elementary school (K-5) makerspaces and the SJBGC Mobile Makerspace. 10 of those students have accredited time built into their high school schedules to go and help the Maker Managers in those spacers facilitate their projects.
Even though I was spearheading the equipment selection, space design, and implementation coordination, I relied on my Robotics students POV to align industrial needs with students engagement and creativity.
If you are in the Area of Northern Indiana and want to work with the best darn students a teacher and coach can ask for, you are invited to set up an appointment.
If you are a team looking for custom parts, feel free to reach out and I’d be happy to see how we can help.
We will be offering tours after the first day (3/1 around Pits Close time) of the FIN District Mishawaka event. If you are attending and want a tour of our new Future Lab, let me know.
