Welcome to the 2024 openalliance Audeamus build thread!

We’re a third-year team from Toronto, Canada with rookie year 2021. This year, we hope to go further, learn more, and share our journey with other FRC teams. This thread will be regularly updated throughout the build season with our progress!

Week 1 (Jan 8 - 12)

General Updates

  • Had a watch party for kickoff both in-person and online (no one expected the rings)
  • Received our KoP and sketched our ideas
  • Strategy team created and released our yearly game overview package
  • Daily early morning meetings to work on our prototype arm and chassis!

Swerve Chassis

We’re super excited for our first year with swerve!

Field Elements

  • Amp was designed to use less wood, built and is near completion.
  • The stage has been redesigned to use less wood.

Outreach

  • Sent out newsletter
  • Converting some old cold emails that weren’t sent from last year to this year’s template

Strategy

  • Organized cabinets and storage
  • Designed and printed badges
  • Implemented sticker system
    • We use this system to easily identify individuals with specific skill sets, to ensure a safe working environment
    • Blue is Electrical
    • Green is Building
  • Began scouting

Building

  • Designs for the arm and intake will be posted soon
  • Beginning work and cutting on the bumpers
  • Determining gearboxes for the intake
  • We are trying to figure out how to weld polyurethane belts
  • Drilling access holes on chassis tubing
  • Progress:
    Intake: drawings for braces and tubing are all complete
    Welding: figured out a 3-step technique using a heat gun and soldering iron that makes a clean connection
    Milling: continued work on milling 2x1 beams, drilled holes on the 21.5 inch side beams
    Field elements: amp is complete and sanded
  • To be done:
    Intake: drilling braces and tubing, then putting it all together. Measuring and welding appropriate lengths of new poly belt
    Chassis: finishing milling, filing, everything for chassis beams. Assembling swerve modules. We will assemble it during a few afternoon meetings
    Field elements: construction of the speaker and stage

Software

  • Everyone has been assigned stuff to work on
  • Make more detailed descriptions of tasks?
  • Planning driver selection

Outreach

  • Sent out newsletter
  • Converting some old cold emails that weren’t sent from last year to this year’s template
  • I made an impassioned speech in the outreach channel and got positively “#mogged” which I still don’t know the meaning of

Morning Meetings

We now have meetings from 7-9 am!

Swerve Chassis

  • Cut-list and Dimensions for the chassis have been completed
  • Ordered 16 ft of metal tubing to make the chassis
  • Assembly of swerve modules
  • Working with electrical to wire all the motors
