Team 9062 is a rookie team out of Hamilton, ON, Canada. This was a phenomenal introductory year for us as we competed at STEMley, Waterloo, McMaster, Ontario DCMP and the Newton Division.
We’re still learning how to CAD things, so our 2023 robot, Bryce, has an incomplete CAD. Despite this, we thought it would be nice to show off what we were able to accomplish this season in case people were hoping to build a long range cube shooter of their own!
Bryce was named after a key Ontario Volunteer, Bryce Reid, who sadly passed away in 2020. He was a dear friend of mine and it was wonderful to be able to celebrate and remember him through this robot.
Key Mechanical Features:
- L2 MK4i swerves
- 38" by 22" chassis with 1/8" steel belly panel (longest swerve in the world to our knowledge)
- 2 side roller intakes for cubes, 22" width each
- Dual flywheel shooter with 4" Colsons on 2x 1:1 Neos at a 15 degree incline (35ft range, but proved inaccurate at that distance)
- 6.5" Center of Gravity regardless of stick arm location
- Originally had pneumatic cone nose gripper (similar to 2019 hatch grabbers, but ditched due to limited use and effectiveness)
- ability to score low by ‘outtaking’ through the side intakes
- designed for long range cube scoring and tiebreaking defence
Key Automation Features:
- 2 piece balanced autonomous mode
- 4 alternative autonomous modes
- Limelight 2+ with auto-alignment for cube node AprilTags
- Originally had a full pneumatics system for cone gripper, removed for DCMP
- 1-button launch sequence for cubes with sequencer and shooter flywheel assemblies
Competition results:
- Seeded 25/30 at Waterloo
- Selected for alliance 6 at Waterloo (thanks 7475 and 8081!) and made it to match 9
- Seeded 26/36 at McMaster
- Seeded 36/40 at ONT DCMP
- Seeded 72nd on Newton Field
Awards:
- Rookie All-Star (Waterloo District 2023)
- Rookie Highest Seed (McMaster District 2023)
- Rookie Inspiration (McMaster District 2023)
- Rookie All-Star (Ontario Provincial Championship)
Overall we had an amazing time with our alliance partners in every single match we played, and look forward to competing at both the Southwest International offseason and OverTime Sunday offseason events here in Ontario!
Mechanical CAD (albeit kind of rudimentary): Onshape
We have definitely learned a lot about OnShape this year, so our offseason build(s?) will have a far better quality CAD model when we make them public. Please let me know what you think!
