Was told this has never happened before but we DID it !
2018, our auto drove us directly into the switch and we burned rubber, and carpet, with two wheels. Four is impressive.
Maybe try being the Not Quite As FAST Team next time?
We only have one speed @JackN . If you are not FIRST you last lol.
Here is the match: Qualification 34 - 2022 FIM District Calvin University Event - YouTube
Robot lost connection while driving in one direction so the motors kept turning and burning the carpet until it was disabled. No damage to the swerve drives and motors were just warm to the touch.
You can see the head referee and FTA notice the smoke coming from under the robot.
Yea we did it in 2019 at FiM Champs when a defense bot started pushing at us. Swerve tread power for the win! Haha
This happened a ton at glacier peak. There were a ton of swerves with blue nitrile tread and at the end the carpet around the hub was pretty destroyed.
2017 at MSC we received a yellow card for burning holes in the carpet, after our awesome defensive strategy turned into us driving into the airship for 2 minutes straight
Also…
As mentioned in the other thread, loss of comms should cause the robot to disable itself. Perhaps a code issue?
To add to this, the light above the drive team in the station is solid when a team is connected and flashing when a team is disconnected during a match. The light above 7056’s driver station never goes flashing before they’re estopped, at which point it went out.
Not sure what happened here but this definitely doesn’t present as a loss of communication with the field.
We did find that our RoboRio was at 95% CPU usage and over 90% memory at one time which an FTA came over and said that was strange and could lead to less then desirable experiences. This caused us to entirely stop moving in our second from last match.
My team did that in 2003 at the first event I participated in. It happened in practice during one of our first attempts at using auton (Auton was introduced that year), we went the wrong way and pushed into the driver station wall and burned through the carpet to the stage floor.
Somew there is a pic from 2013 that shows five robots in a line at MN State Tournament. We burned through the carpet. Hi grip wheels with Toughbox Minis (forget the gearing).
