My team has begun work finalizing our Impact Presentation in the form of a poster board, and our lead mentor mentioned that FIRST had tried to get rid of poster board presentations, however, we haven’t found anything when reviewing the submitted awards page. Despite this, I thought it would be a good idea to reach out to a wider knowledge base to understand where this concern originated from, and if it is one that we must consider.
You can bring pretty much any props/presentation materials you want as long as you don’t bring recording equipment and use it to record your interview.
I’ve never seen or heard of any restrictions on what can be used in the presentation, as long as you’re not recording anything. Just know that any set up time counts as part of your 7-minute presentation. 6328 has always used analog presentation supports (posters, props, printed photos, etc.) because we’ve never wanted to experience digital tools failing at the exact wrong moment.
With few exceptions (eg recording) if the 3 of you can get it in the room, you can use it. Let your imagination run wild. A couple of years back we made a 6.5 foot tall wooden “hex shaft” with pictures hung on the six sides.
Generally a good idea to also make sure your materials fit through a normal-sized interior door without unnecessary drama and that you don’t need external power (which may not be available).
